Apps Mining Company
The Apps Mining Company is the largest organized corporation of miners in the Kingdom of Alsona. Having spent over a century with expertise in the mining of valuable minerals and resources from the mountains that gave the company its name, they gained substantial influence over the politics and economy of the nation. When they were established, they were but one of dozens of mining guilds and collectives across Alsona and the surrounding mountains, but through ruthlessness and innovation, the Apps Mining Company crushed all of their peers and competitors in relatively short order, having a de facto monopoly by 950 AF. This monopoly persisted until the emergence of Crysos Mining Company in 1009, which has created the toughest rival the company has ever faced. Although the Wingo War diminished Crysos' abilities as an organization, the Apps Mining Company is but a shadow of itself in comparison to its glory days.
Structure
The Apps Mining Company is an incorporated business, run primarily out of the Kingdom of Alsona. They maintain operations and mines throughout Alsona and several neighboring states along the Apps Mountains range. Each of these facilities is run by a site manager, often a dwarf, who reports to various regional directors that oversee operations in the provinces where the mines are located. The regional directors then report to the shareholders, who form a council to advise and collect the proceeds of their investments into the company. The head of it all is the Chairman of the Council, who oversees all day to day operations and is the face of the corporation to heads of state and other interested parties.
Public Agenda
Publicly, the Apps Mining Company's main priority is to maintain a profitable existence for its shareholders. In the wake of the Wingo War, however, with Crysos Mining Company having caused a full scale rebellion among the dwarves of Wingo Mine and plunged Alsona into a lost war, the Chairman saw opportunity. Since the conflict has ended, the Apps Mining Company has played off of the resentment of the human population towards dwarves and elves, and has let go any nonhumans from positions of authority in their operations. While they keep a moderate amount of dwarves on mining staff, they are kept at significantly lower wages and positions than human counterparts.
Assets
Minerals and ores are the lifeblood of the Alsonan economy, and the Apps Mining Company is at the center of it. They have mines and offices in over a dozen communities in four different nations, but the bulk of their activities rests in Alsona. This includes thousands of miners and hundreds of well trained and experienced mercenaries who have often spent their entire lives protecting the mining operations and shipments of the company. They employ their own caravans, banks, and vaults to protect the wealth and materials recovered from the rock, which gives them a large and organized military force. Most of these are experienced veterans of the Wingo War and other conflicts, and are no strangers to operations against dwarven agitators.
