Isanto

On the continent of Egoni, there is the Isanto Nation, which has yet to join the Elivera Federation; it is an allied state however. There is only four provinces in this nation. The Isanto people tend to build and craft their cities to meld with the landscape, making them seem part of the environment. From a distance, it can be hard to spot their cities and towns due to this landscaping. Their symbol is of a falcon-like dinosaur (it’s closest approximation to Earth species is the Archaeopteryx). The species hunts in the canyons and uses the wind to glide. Much of their culture is tied up in music and dance because of the songs that emit from the canyons during times of heavy winds.   The flag has the constellation of the Asuterin -- the falcon-like dinosaur, where stars outline the shape of the creature. The colors of the flag are consistent with a culture that lives within mountains, forest, and marshland -- and the colorscape associated with that.   They speak the language of Zähtyyian. Due to the deep canyons that emit a cacophony of sounds during the high wind parts of the weather cycles of Egoni, much of their culture is built around music and the cycles of wind-moon. A fairly large ethnic group also speaks Id̄ïtil̆eq̄aɕïian Language as their native tongue, though they are bilingual in both languages. A much smaller sub-group of migrants speak Sanii̊ko̊ian.   Since Elivera has two moons, when the two moons overlap and eclipse one another in orbit, this doubles the tidal effect on the planet; thus, the waves and winds increase during this time. This increases the music from the canyons, and the winds are fierce. Much time is spent indoors or underground to avoid the worst of the wind-storms, so the Isanto culture has built indoor/underground festivals during the high-wind portion of the wind-moon cycles.   Their calendar is a lunar calendar.

Isantos

  1. Area to the east that encompasses part of the marshland, the dryer plains, and the bay area, where much of the ports are located.

Paidir

  1. Located in the southern mountains and is a mining region.

Solas

  1. Solasuta is the capital of this region that takes up central Egoni. Situated on an island in the middle of the largest lake on Egoni. Most of its buildings resemble trees and are painted to blend with the tall, thin trees that litter the island and the forest to the north and west. Most of the forest is made of these tall, thin trees with silver bark.
  2. There is one Raliok tree near the center of the continent, and its huge root system has caused a lot of earthquakes over the millennia, which helped form the large sinkhole and cavern networks in the canyons (along with tectonic activity and the erosion from rivers). This causes the high velocity winds in the canyons to produce sound as they flow over the sinkhole openings (forming a closed pipe resonant system). At Solasuta, a person can hear the sounds from all of the canyons.

Eolas

  1. Region that encompasses the northern mountain range, where its capital is near a small river that flows into the Milis. Some of the buildings are built into parts of the mountains, and they have an extensive mine network throughout the region. Much of the mining is done here.

Structure

Horizontal democracy, in which each town has a communal structure and consensus-making decision trees.

  1. Public forums are done every season to discuss the needs of the populace. Anyone can put forward ideas for laws and regulations that uplift people and help manage society for the better.
  2. Voting happens on the ideas - this determines which ones move forward to the next stage.
  3. People sign up for committees to dig into and work on the ideas, to create full-fledged possible laws.
  4. Committees meet -- anyone is welcome to join.
  5. In the next public forum at the end of the season, people listen and read through the possible laws the committees created from the public's ideas.
  6. A vote is held on whether to enact the laws.
  7. If 85% of the public says yes to the law, it becomes law. If 75% say yes, it goes back to committee to be adjusted based on the feedback of the 25% that said no. If less than 75% say yes, it does not become law.
  8. All laws are enforced by emergency-groups (Sanivotohan) that are led by community members. The leaders of these groups get rotated out on a three-year basis. Anyone can be trained to join the Sanivotohan. Their job is to make sure laws are abided by and to issue any fines for those that violate the laws. Or for those that do severe harm to another person (if not outright kill them), the Sanivotohan work with the Husitohan to investigate the harm and then place the perpetrator in a rehabilitatory service.

Culture

A communal society, where interdependence is seen as a strength. Individualism and/or self-centered desires is seen as an impediment to progress and the health of people and society in general.

Art and Music

Art and music are core to the culture. Due to the culture situated in the valley of song -- where the music of the canyons echo into the forested valley -- song is the cornerstone of nearly everything in the culture. All legal ceremonies begin and end with song. All festivals feature music heavily. All religious aspects utilize song as the universe speaking through its creation. Even the language itself has pitch accents that give the spoken word a sing-song texture.

Basic Worldviews

Isanto believes in the multiplicity of pluralism, many worlds within the world. Everything exists in relation, where it all develops and originates in a meshwork of relations, where all are aware of the interdependency of existence. There is no single reality, no duality, where binaries exist -- reality is a pluraverse of intersecting realities, systems, and worldviews, where the world is a multi-dimensional mosiac of ontological existence.   Thus, much of the culture manifests in varied ways, where there is no set routines that are prevalent across the entire nations, but each city or village or farming community have their own sustainable approaches to life that fit within the larger regulatory necessities to keep society running smoothly and in equitable and helpful ways.

Death rituals

  • The Eastern side of Isanto tends toward cremation and the spreading of ashes within compost to grow new life.
  • Western Isanto tends toward burials in constructed tombs, most built out of stone and underground.
  • Northern Isanto has a mixture of both approaches to death, where cremation is accepted as a possibility but also burial in tombs above ground - these are constructed out of local stone and minerals.

Birth rituals

  • Eastern Isanto tends toward a community gathering for births and the youngest ages of children. The community raises the children not just the family.
  • Western Isanto is more insular, so births are private affairs. The raising of the child is seen as communal, though parents have final say on how the child is raised.
  • Northern Isanto is a mixture of the two approaches to birth rituals and raising of children.

Education

Education in Isanto is very much oriented around do-and-experiment for the ages between 3 and 12. Children in much of the nation go to school to experiment with ideas and concepts in a hands-on way within loose subject areas. One day may focus on science-oriented activities, the next math-oriented, the next reading-oriented, the next writing-oriented, and so forth. The cycle then repeats after the ninth day. This way children can explore topics that interest them within each of the larger subject areas. The only regulation is that Ability classes must conform to the safety regulations for experiments with those that use Level 2 and 3 Abilities - these start at age 9 or 10, when Abilities first manifest, and these classes are held in a separate location than the usual schooling.

Public Agenda

  • Public agenda is focused on the care of its citizens:
    1. Providing healthcare universally for little to no cost
    2. Providing education universally for little to no cost
    3. Corporations and higher income brackets taxed in tiers from 20-60% to support the societal needs. Those under a specific tax bracket are taxed only at 0-20%.
    4. Universal income provided to everyone to support housing and food.
    5. Regulations that keep the environment healthy.
    6. Sustainable energy use.
    7. Sustainable and environmental-friendly agricultural regulations
    8. National park systems -- especially the caverns that produce the canyon's song. These caverns are off-limits to tourists and general public to preserve their original states and to keep the canyon's song healthy. The long Raliok tree is also a national park with limited visitor hours to keep it a low-impact experience.

Territories

The continent of Egoni encompasses the entirety of Isanto, though the individual provinces were once smaller countries that merged into a larger one over time and through mutual cooperation. The people of Isanto have lived on Egoni since before the Silence, many of their ancestors some of the original humans taken by the Dragios in the Laiht era. Other families descended from refugees from the lost birthplace of humanity before the gates to other worlds were shut down during the time of the Silence. A gate to another planet exists on Egoni, but it is hidden in a cave deep within one of the most treacherous and dangerous canyons on the planet. Although the Elivera Federation and other nations over the centuries tried to locate this hidden gate, in hopes it could be investigated and reactivated, the people of Isanto have rebuffed and refused to provide its location. They honor the original agreement set forth during the time of the Silence and passed down in their mythology, storytelling, and ancient documents kept in a vault deep under the city of Solasuta.

Foreign Relations

Allied with the Elivera Federation.

Agriculture & Industry

Much of the agriculture is in the plains south of Solasuta - the Kevahutonai, where the marshlands provide ample space for starch based crops, sweet or tangy spices, tea, and fruits that grow only in marsh conditions such as lotus berries and shroom citrus. The production of secreted sweeteners is also a primary industry within the central forests of Egoni as many species of wax producing bugs live in the Mihor forests.   The mountain ranges to the north and east are riddled with mines and manufacturing depots with essor_trains that ferry the minerals to the industrial centers in the forests of Mihor and Solasuta. Within those industrial centers, the minerals are turned into Growth seeds for use in various industry practices. A lot of the exports are Growth seeds and marsh agriculture excess food.

Mythology & Lore

Kanu - the source of all creation. The sound that rippled across the universe and called the people home. From this echoing sound, creation burst forth into being, and the sound broke into a chorus of harmony. The harmony saturated the universe and from it comes all matter.   Kanuiht is the music of the canyons that calls the people home to Egoni. From the music of the spheres, the people are one with the universe and the universe is made conscious through them.   This mythology perpetuates much of the culture of Egoni, especially Solasuta which lies in the center of the continent, and thus, all five canyons music converges on that city.

Legislative Body
Public Forums present in each city and town. Within the public forums are distinct committees that focus on specific topics and needs. Anyone can join the committees and forums to engage in the consensus decision-making process. See Structure of organization.
Judicial Body
Specific committees exist in each town, where they examine the laws of the country and interpret it in various cases. If anyone has problems or concerns or wishes to sue, they go to these judicial committees to engage in the paperwork and research needed to determine an answer to the question posed by the seeker. There are three levels to these committees: town/city, regional, and national.
Executive Body
The Executive body enforces the laws through regular inspections, and if any person or organization fails the inspections, fines and restorative justice initiatives are implemented to examine the harm and to rehabilitate as necessary. Much of this is local, as very rarely does this enter into the judicial committee territory -- when it does, it goes through the three levels or until a decision is reached on how to integrate the person or organization back into agreement with the laws. Sometimes this process can cause the country to reevaluate the law in question, upon which a decision to reevaluate it causes the judicial and executive bodies to suspend the law and send it to the legislative body for review.

International Peace Treaty (IPT), Space Defense Pact (SDP)

Isanto refused to join the Elivera Federation as they had not yet established trust in the Eagrok approach to the Federation terms. Instead, they crafted a series of treaties with the Federation that relate to trade, peace, justice, and defense. Isanto welcomes people of all cultures, but does not wish to be part of the Qotokunisan ceremonies as they believe them to be influenced too much by the alien artifact. In turn, the nations within the Federation recognize Isanto as an allied nation, independent.
