Regardless, life as a dwarf was once easy, but then the Reavers attacked. That started around 500 years ago, the first Reavers were encountered. No Dwarf alive then is still around to tell the story, but they have told of that time well enough that any Dwarf could tell you the tale.
Today the Dwarf's live as normal cities in most of the nations of the Aygess, while perhaps not all prejudice has faded, much of the world has come to accept the circumstances that led to the Dwarfs joining the surface world. And while very few Dwarfs remain who had lived beneath the surface, many Dwarfs dream and sing of a return to there ancestors cities.
Because of this complication, very few Dwarfs are in positions of power, though the riches in the forms of precious gems and family heirlooms that some had brought with them, it did allow those Dwarves to buy properties and businesses. The strong almost unbreakable spirit of dwarven kind also allowed many to take up work, and improve their status.

The story of Dwarfs is a sad one. Long ago they ruled the under earth. Mined the mountains, and dug deep tunnels into the earth. Their ingenuity, and mechanical genius was renowned. Though at times the complexity of the machinery, and the extended life span of the machines, many generations of Dwarfs later and the knowledge of how they worked, and the ingenuity that led to there creation was lost.
