The 17th Galactic War

Introduction:

The 17th Galactic War is the most recent of the galactic wars throughout history, having started 443 years ago and lasting 3 years. While the inciting cause was originally related to one primitive planet, it eventually turned into a war about the legal status of all primitive planets in the Founder Galaxy. It ended in a victory for the Empire and its allies, solidifying the cultural contamination act as a galactic law. The effects of the war are still felt today, as many of the shifted alliances resulting from it have yet to shift back to what they once were.

The Beginning:

For the millenia leading up to the war, the federation refused to recognize the authority of the cultural contamination act, a law preventing the interference with primitive planets. They had not performed any violations in fear of consequences, until the day the 17th galactic war began. The planet Loria was experiencing a major viral outbreak that was projected to exterminate 8% of its population, who were then in a medieval age. The empire intercepted federal transmission that revealed the federation planned to distribute medical aid to Loria. The federation refused to back down when threatened by the Galactic Council, and proceded with their preperations. The empire warned the federation that if they attempted to land ships on Loria, they would be fired upon. Ignoring this, the federation attempted to land on Loria. The ships were attacked and disabled, and their crews taken as POWs. In response the federation and Ares declared war on the empire, which the empire responed to with their own declaration. The 17th galactic war had begun.

Important Events:

-Soon after the start of the war, the federation called out to the galactic community in an attempt to gather support. They requested that anyone who cared for the safety and well-being of the people of Loria lend medical supplies to the federation. After hesitation, the Raltek Interstellar State agreed to sell supplies at a reduced price to the federation. The empire attempted to blockade these supplies, but a mishandled exchange led to an imperial ship firing upon and destroying a raltek ship. The State, outraged, declared war on the empire and joined forces with the allied powers.
-4 months of skirmishes and border patrolling passed before the allied powers attempted to drop aid on Loria. Their innitial drops were succesful, with the aid ships being equiped with cloaking technology and the doctors onboard disguises as the native raylors. The empire soon caught on and put a blockade around the planet, preventing further aid without a fight.
-The federation and its allies launched a large attack on the imperial blockade, losing the battle but significantly weakening the imperial forces. Seeing that the allied powers were a true threat, Tachov and Zadus declared war and joined the empire's side, an action they had done for nearly every conflict in the past 190,000 years.
