The Scourge

A Mindreaper, a feared and powerful scourge species.

Introduction:

The Scourge is an ever-evolving species with one goal in mind: the complete consumption of all non-scourge life in the universe. They are a perfect hive mind, consisting of colonies of unintelligent drones each serving their colony's single sentient queen, who in turn follow the orders of the powerful hive queen. These colonies and their components work together like organs in a body, acting like one massive organism. The scourge as a whole is intelligent and extremely powerful, and currently occupy 1/4 of the Founder Galaxy.

First Contact:

The Scourge are originally from the Arrow Galaxy. While not confirmed, it is believed that they have consumed nearly all life in that galaxy. 3,282 years ago, several alien ships were discovered on the other side of the Founder Galaxy. They did not respond to communication attempts and instead destroyed the imperial ships who discovered them. The Scourge quickly began to conquer and colonize the back part of the galaxy, destroying all resistance. To the Empire's dismay, the Scourge were able to counter Precursor Technology and defeat the Illithid-Dilug Intergalactic Empire of New Rocheron in combat.

Scourge Space:

The Scourge currently occupy 1/4 of the galaxy. Their expansion was eventually stopped when the Empire successfully synthesized a biological compound that, when delivered with precursor weapons, could keep the Scourge at bay. Today, travel to both scourge space and the border systems are strictly forbidden and are considered active military zones. Systems near the border may have the occasional scourge ship enter, so visitors should take extreme caution.

Combat:

Single scourge ships are extremely dangerous, but are able to be destroyed with modern technology. They are very sturdy and have powerful weapons, meaning that ships should be heavily outfitted in order to combat them. Scourge ships only have one weakness: the biological compound named "Valex." This compound has to be delivered with antimatter cannons, weapons from the High Precursor Era. These weapons are no longer made and as such are rare. Every single antimatter cannon is currently being used to fight the scourge.   On foot, the scourge is still a formidable fighting force. The scourge comes in a variety of shapes, nearly all of which are strong and insectoid. They are much easier to destroy than their ships, but should still be considered extremely dangerous. In addition to their weakness to the compound, scourge creatures have another weakness: any ability that can sever an individual from the hive mind. Doing so will temporarily stun the creature as they collapse into despair and dread from their separation, giving their opponents a chance to dispatch the creature.

Threat:

While the scourge is currently held at bay, millions of people have expressed concern over the possibility of a full scourge invasion. While the Empire is constantly researching new technology to combat them, the scourge is as well. Details of the combat has largely been kept a secret, and the United Federation of Humanity has publicly condemned the secrecy. Several federal officials have declared the Empire's response to the scourge "lackluster" and proposed a joint research alliance to combat them. A few senators have publicly called upon the Empire to direct more effort to combating the scourge, including senator Nulah Remul.
