Ishmae Character in Earedar | World Anvil

Ishmae (Ish-may)

Archangel of Wisdom

"The leadership shown by Ishmae in the Westhold during the Infernal Crusade shows why she was the only being considered to be Protector of the Realms outside of Araneos during the Emerald Age. Her strategy was masterful, and her diplomacy a masterclass in how to get opposing factions to work together to a common end. That region has not known peace since her departure."

A Study of the Infernal Crusade

Ishmae is one of the Archangels of Sanctum and a member of the High Council of Sanctum. Born in the Citadel of Light during The Godswar, Ishmae was a loyal servant of the Lady Arishanne. After her death, Ishmae joined the newly formed High Council of Sanctum, and stepped up as a ruler of The Light after the truce negotiated by Bahamut between Helmvor and Tisrendel. Ishame was briefly considered for the position of Protector of the Realms before the group eventually passed that position on to Araneos, a fact she has never held a grudge over. Ishmae has assisted in guiding the Heavens ever since, and often splits her time between the battlefields of the Nether Abyss and Sanctum.
Ishmae is an interventionist Archangel, often interfering in the affairs of the Elder Races. As such, she has cultivated a relatively large following in the Known Realms. She often sends messages and signs to her followers, and as such is one of the more readily venerated amongst the Archangels.
While Ishmae supported Savanne during her trial, calling it a "gross miscarriage of justice" to cast her out of the Council, she was able to join with Ma'liki in convincing Araneos to allow her to remain within Sanctum. She stood opposed to the actions of Azreal during the Age of Storms however, and voted with the rest of the Council against Ma'liki to cast him out from the Heavens.
Ishmae defended Earedar during the Infernal Crusade, landing at Kitrim and helping the High Kingdom of the Stonelands, the Second Vraekar Empire as well as the human kingdoms of the Westhold in defending themselves against Malpheus and the Felidar Imperium. They were quite successful, and as such those regions were left relatively unscathed from the fires of the Age of Shadows. All three of those regions still hold large followings of Ishmae to this day.

Faiths, Cults and Organizations

Church of Light- The Church is the largest and most powerful religious organization in the Known Realms. Most popular amongst the Elder Races, the Church is dedicated to the preservation of the Light's teaching and subservience to the Lady's will. They protect the weak, attend to the poor, and are a beacon of hope in times of darkness. While sometimes this mission can be lost or corrupted within the Church, they still hold great influence over most of Earedar. There are many smaller orders and fraternities within the Church, the most well-known being the Oathsworn.   High Council of Sanctum- The ruling council of Sanctum, the High Council rules over the forces of the Light across the Known Realms. Their leader is Araneos, Archangel of Honor and Protector of the Realms. All followers of the Light recognize him as the leader of our Lady's Church, and the reach of the council extends across known space.   Children of Wisdom- An order of paladins, clerics and priests founded during the Infernal Crusade in the Westhold, they are relatively small compared to other divine orders, having never reached the level of popularity attained by the more well-known Oathsworn. Even still, they are an order dedicated to safeguarding the weak, protecting the innocent, and striking out at all evil things. They are required to complete a massive coursework of study, and as such it is extremely difficult to graduate into their ranks. They often serve as councilors, advisors and generals in the Westhold.
