Azreal was once one of the Archangels of Sanctum and a member of the High Council of Sanctum. Azreal was born during The Godswar and a loyal servant of the Lady Arishanne. After her death he stepped up as a ruler of the forces of The Light, after the truce negotiated by Bahamut between Helmvor and Tisrendel. Azreal assisted in guiding the heavens and campaigning on the battlefields of the Nether Abyss until his fall during the Age of Storms.

Azreal was moderately interventionist deity before his fall from Sanctum, and cultivated a decent following in the Inner Realms. He would intervene from time to time in the affairs of the Elder Races, giving them visions and other communications. This resulted in a small following of him as an Archangel of Earedar. Since his fall Azreal has been notoriously absent from his followers, taking upon the personage of Lord Daaru and forming the Path of Dusk. He stayed outside of the limelight until the events of the Fall of Illidion, where he joined the citizens of Emberfall in their defense of the Free City during the failed demonic invasion thereof in 6713 CY along with his followers. Since then he has fled his catacombs beneath Emberfall, and his current whereabouts are unknown. Agents of the Church of Light search for him vigorously. Azreal voted to expulse the Archangel Savanne during her trial, and abstained from voting in his own, following Savanne's example.

Azreal defended Earedar during the Infernal Crusade, taking up arms against the Prince of Darkness himself, Belros Azul in the Xa'a Empire. While putting up a strong fight, Azreal was routed by Belros and his forces, and the Third Dynasty of Xa'a toppled, seeing the elimination of the Po-Kang Emperors. It is widely believed that Azreal's defeat and subsequent retreat to the Khakari Wildlands contributed heavily to his later conviction in the Age of Storms that the only way to defeat The Shadow was by using its own power against them, but there is no evidence to prove this supposition outside of speculation. What we do know is that in 3164 CY the Archangel Xenades discovered that Azreal had been experimenting with the Shadow and quickly brought it to the attention of the High Council. Xenades then led the campaign to expulse Azreal from Sanctum, almost coming to blows with the Archangel of Courage. The followers of both powers still hold animosity towards each other to this day. He know prefers the pseudonym Lord Daaru.

Path of Dusk- An organization of death knights and warlocks dedicated to using their Shadow corruption against the enemies of the Light, followers of the Path struggle to maintain control over their infernal power. Whether corrupted accidentally or on purpose, Lord Daaru teaches that their power is a gift, and while they will inevitably one day fall to it's corruption, the good they are able to do in the Realms before this far outweights their inevitable fate. It is unclear whether Lord Daaru himself will one day fall to this corruption.
