Summer Camp 2023 Prep

It's been a long time my friends. And I can truly say I missed this place. The past few years have been extremely hard for me health wise. But I am finaly ready to come back after my last Summer Camp in 2021. I have to admit I'm a little bit scared it might be too much for me since I am struggling with debilitating health issues. But I set my goal low, so I don't need to feel bad if all I manage is a copper badge. The atmosphere surrounding Summer Camp on Discord is from what I remember fantastic. It would be wonderful to be part of it again. But I don't know if I'll be able to spend much time on there. This is also true for reading articles and giving feedback. But I will try my best as I miss the community feel and love reading what others write. Good luck to everyone, and don't forget to enjoy yourself!
I solemnly pledge to finish a minimum of eight prompts during Summer Camp 2023 for my fantasy world Ealdwyll. And to not feel bad when that is all I manage to do.
— Rynn

Theme 1: Power

As I'm sure is true for many conworlds, Ealdwyll has many forms of power. Some are hidden and unknown to most of my worlds population, while others are out in the open and known to many. Since Ealdwyll spans an entire globe the size of our Earth, there are a lot of nations that wield various forms of power, and plenty of religious and other organisations which hold power in one way or another. So I'm sure I can find plenty of subjects to write about.   Another way to gain power in Ealdwyll is by the possession of an Artefact from Before. These are relics from ancient civilizations which have special properties. For example: some have the ability to give light, while others power a ship. And they do this without the use of fuel. These relics are also Ageless, meaning they never break or stop working. Depending on the type of relic, the owner gains a lot of power, but they are also very wanted and therefor can be dangerous to own.
  Article ideas:
  • Governing systems in Ghynzua, West Eghea, Ippah
  • Religious organisations in West Eghea and Ippah
  • Artefacts from Before
  • Certain valuable resources
  • Powerful figures

Theme 2: Frontier

This theme is very interesting. There are plenty of frontiers in Ealdwyll. But I have never thought of them as an inbetween place. So I'm very curious to see where the prompts will lead me. In a way the world itself is in a frontier state. Because long forgotten forces start to stir, and people are slowly seeing changes which affect their lives in new and unknown ways.
  Article ideas:
  • Borders between nations
  • The lands outside the Walled Cities of West Eghea
  • The world in a state between the familiar present and the unfamiliar near future

Theme 3: Relics

Probably the best known relics in Ealdwyll are the Artefacts from Before. As mentioned under the first theme, they are a source of power in some cases, while others gave a lot of knowledge which helped civilisations rebuild much faster after the worldwide devastation The Pulse caused. There is stil so much to discover about these relics, therefor many of them are studied by sholars all over the world. Especially since they were left behind by a powerful ancient civilization called The Forgotten by the general public and Ealdorians by sholars.   Obviously the Forgotten where not the only once to leave behind relics. Even though a lot was destroyed in the cataclysm that took place over 3000 years ago, there are still traces of other ancient civilizations to be found in various places throughout the world. Also, a lot of time has past since that fateful day where the world nearly came to an end.
  Article ideas:
  • Main hub article about the Artefacts from Before
  • Specific Artefacts left behind by the Forgotten
  • Relics from other civilizations, some of which are gone, while others have evolved throughout the ages
  • Specific museums
  • The people whom study history and its relics

Theme 4: Communication

In its current state I haven't given much thought to communication in my world just yet. I did write about The Orbs of Aeol at some point, but how regular people and various organisations communicate over larger distances is not something I have developed. So the prompts related to this theme could prove very useful for me. The literacy rate in my world is pretty high in many parts, so the written word can certainly be used.
  Article ideas:
  • A newspaper
  • An animal used to transport letters or something similar
  • People who orally spread the news

You made me so happy with your notification today! I am sorry life has been rough for you these past 2 years, but I am so happy to see you writing again. Pace yourself, don't do more than it feels safe to do and enjoy the fun. I am not much on the WA discord either because I am very low on spoons too, but I followed back Ealdwill and will make sure to read whatever you write. The Book of Laughter is to this day one of my favourite articles I ever read on WA, I hope you will be able to write many happy pages in yours this summer and going forward.
