The mighty Aurelian Kingdom dominates the northeastern part of the Dagadean continent. It is both a military and political power, but lacks substantial cultural influence. It is the rival power to Noromaeni Empire. It as founded 700 years ago by the ancient hero Auren. It defeated the dominant power of the Thanorus Theocracy several hundred years and has slowly taken their place as the premier power on Dagadae. Aurelia has a strong national religion that is a unifying force for the common people of the country, and the king comes from a line chosen by the gods to strengthen legitimacy; all Aurelian kings come from the line of Auren.
i. King (Rocan Aurel)
ii. Court of nobles
1. Each noble family oversees one element of the infrastructure of the nation, and has a province over which they rule.

To spread the power of the line of Auren and the one true religion worshiping the 9 Divines and their children.
The nation is known for its mineral and lumber exports, of which it has plenty. The king can call upon 500,000 soldiers on active duty, and another 100,000 on reserve. The country has state of the art military schools and the top generals in Dagadae. The nation is highly fortified upon its woodland border, and a wall that runs the entire length of the Talun Forest is in construction.
The country is divided into 7 provinces, and each province is controlled by one of the nobles from the council of 7. The king presides over each territory, and the noble houses interact with one another pretty extensively, as each house has a specific specialty. The borders of the Nation extend from the coast of the Westerwyn peninsula and the Byrion ocean to the eastern edges of the Talun Forest.
Each legion has about 5,500 men. The legion is subdivided into ten units called cohorts. Nine of the cohorts have 480 soldiers. The cohorts are subdivided into six companies, of about 80 men each. Each company is commanded by a Common Commander. Each company also has a Guard Master, a Standard Bearer, a Signalier, and an Common Officer. The Guard Master got 1½ pay, and was in control of guard duties. The Standard-Bearer also kept track of pay and expenses and received double pay. The Signalier was a hornblower. The Common Officer was a backup if the Common Commander fell, and helped with the training of the century. The legion also has about 10
Arathan Dragoons, who were used as scouts. Magicians are used most often in medical capacities and hiding the legion while it is on the march, and a legion often has 10 magicians fulfilling various roles.
Each legion also had an Pack Leader and several ranking officers, as well as a Noble Commander. The Pack Leader carried the wolf head, the standard of the entire legion. Much superstition is attached to the wolf head, and if it is lost, the entire legion might be disbanded. The legion carries other standards as well, such as an image of the king, the legionary symbol, and special flags that are used when detachments of the legion are sent away. The Noble Commander is an officer appointed by the king and commanded the legion with a great deal of help from his Common Commanders and the quartermaster.
The primary god worshiped by soldiers of the legion is
Taranis: God of War and his likeness is often painted on shields and made into standards to take into battle. The air cav units usually worship
Lugus: God of the Eternal Blue Sky, for it was his skies in which they rode. Magicians worship
Mackah, Goddess of Magic and Wisdom as a general rule and a host of other gods. The religious differences amongst the different parts of the legion cause rivalry, but unit cohesion is always upheld.
magical artillery and siege weapons are used, but rarely, unless the hostile force is expected to have substantial defenses that will need to be breached. Cavalry is usually pulled from the western provinces. 120 light cavalry and 80 heavy cavalrymen are attached to the legion, but kept in a separate camp. They tend to have a more aristocratic demographic and worship Dagda as their battle muse.
Advances in industrial and magical technology has increased under king Rocan, but the country is known more for their military tradition. Military prowess is prioritized over scientific advancement and magic is strictly regulated by the state, stifling innovation. After the Battle of Thanoran Extinction , the stigma of evil sorcerers increased in the minds of the people of Aurelia. While magic is not illegal and is not viewed with open hostility, the common people view it with suspicion. The nation has the common technologies associated with the medieval point in world history.
The country worships most of the gods, with worship of some gods being banned. The worship of Izukah, Tuatha, and Basa. Aurelians don't really have a name for their religion, and if you were ask one what it is the would most likely respond with simply, "I just worship the gods." The religion of the country is overseen the by Pontifex of the
Chantry of the Divine Founder. The Chantry resides in the capital and contains the lead priests for each of the gods. Temples for the various gods are peppered throughout the country and worship takes place at local shrines and temples.
In 611 E.M the Atrean Revelations changed the country's stance on religion and reformed the religion of the nation. Previous to the revelations of the prophetess Atrea, the country had no official religion and simply worshiped the traditional pantheon of 12 gods and goddesses. However, after the Atrean Revelations, the royals were told of the truth by the prophetess Atrea. She wrote down her revelations from the gods on scrolls and immediately began preaching in the small town of Gretas. From there the religion spread to the capital of Aurelia and the prophetess was brought before the Council of 7 to spread the truth about the gods. The king was enraptured by this tale and converted on the spot; the official religion of the country followed suit.
Not even a full year later the king ordered that all heretics of the old pagan religion be put to the torch. During the Night of Flaming Tears the king sent out a decree that all worship of the Devil Triumdeorate was labelled as heresy and punishable by burning. During the night a national effort was put into place by the Council of 7 and all across the country the priests and temples of the 3 illicit gods were put to the torch. Mob violence against individuals associated with those gods was encouraged.
The chantry has lost power over time, and while they have considerable influence amongst the landless commoners, the nobility see them as a threat to their power. King Rocan has decreased the power of chantry in the last few decades.
The House of Fercwin trains diplomats and is responsible for negotiating with foreign powers. The country is not known for its strong diplomatic prowess, but is given respect for its military power. It has strained relations with neighboring countries, but it is not a warmonger. Aurelia has strained relations with the
Noromaeni Empire empire to the south. Relations with other neighboring countries is relatively peaceful.
Agriculture in the country is managed by the house of Sylwulf. The west is primary location of the large farms and plantations of Aurelia. The craftsmen and specialty workers tend to flock to the cities, while unskilled labor works on large plantations, and smaller farms pepper the western landscape. The east is a massive source of lumber and other raw materials are acquired in the mountains to the south on the border with the
Noromaeni Empire.
Trade and foreign relations for the country are handled by the House of Fercwin. The land exports are taken through the Talun forest. Most exports are taken by ship through the ports on the coast.
The nobility is extensively educated and sent to the best schools, but the plebs are generally only basically educated. Access to education is available to all in law, but in practice a generous donation to a school or family connection is needed. In 926 E.M. King Oren hoped to better strengthen the common people through education and made it legal for commoners to pursue education at the same schools as nobles. He also required that the schools take the applications of all and evaluate them based on merit, not familial connections. While some schools and universities are more understanding of King Oren's vision, the majority are corrupt.
The country has an extensive road system, and sanitation systems exist in the richer areas of the major cities, but sewage is not a priority in the other areas of major cities. sewage systems are non existent in smaller villages and cities. The borders of the country are defended by an extensive castle and outpost system.
The gods were always there and they hold eternal dominion over all creation. Creation and the high races were begot by the gods and molded by their divine power. They once walked amongst the high races, but the founder told the first settlers of Flurean that the gods went silent due to the sinfulness of the high races. Before the gods receded from the mortal plane, they elected Auren to be their champion, and tasked his line with subduing Durannun. Once that great task has been accomplished the gods shall return in splendor and glory.
Once we were ignorant, and even the founder was deceived. Auren believed that there were 12 gods and they were all equally deserving of praise, but the the three deceivers had masqueraded as divine gods. The demons Tuatha, Izukah, and Basa deceived the mortal races for hundreds of years, but thank the 9 that the great prophetess, rest upon her spirit, removed the veil from our eyes in 611 E.M. The Devil Triumdeorate, the great deceivers, plotted and planned to destroy the gods and their creations for thousands of years. Izukah and Tuatha conceived the monsters that now plague our world, and their unholy union is the origin of all beasts of darkness that feast upon the flesh of the high races. Tuatha and Basa, the goddess of plagues and death, used unholy blood magic to create disease and all the ailments that haunt the high races. Their evil did not stop there, for they soon began to walk amongst the mortals and lie with them. These unions created evil creatures that feasted upon the blood of the high races. Auren was tasked by the god Dagda to slay these monsters, and upon his success he was granted a place at his side and ascended in 336 E.M. The divine mission of the line of Auren still stands, and it is the will of the 9 that they rule and subdue all of Durannun.
atural creatures and to dominate Durannun so that the holy mission of the gods might be carried out.
Auren was a son of Dagda, the god of all that is on land, and he was the Divine Founder of the great Aurelian Kingdom. He was chosen by divine providence to be the hero of the gods: to combat all the evil creatures in the world, to spread the truth of gods and their power to the four corners of Durannun, and to destroy the treacherous ones who worship the demon king and queen. He is the founder and hero of the Aurelian Kingdom, and the kings trace their family line directly to him. The line of the Pontifex is from the first follower of Auren, Imreas.
The Atrean Revelations ushered Aurelia into the age of the enlightened spirit. The prophetess Atrea, rest upon her spirit, began speaking of the deception of the demon lords of darkness in the town of Gretas. Her word spread so quickly that she was summoned by King Arathas and the council of 6 nobles. She preached the truth of the three deceivers, and in his wisdom the king perceived the truth in her words. Aurelian Paganism became the official religion of the kingdom and the temples to the devils were torn down during Night of Flaming Tears.
The 9 gods of the pantheon hold dominion over all life in the world and are the divine overseers of creation. The Devil Triumdeorate live in the plane of darkness underneath of the earthen domain of
Dagda: God of the Hard Earth. They live in a realm of monsters and lesser demons, the three deceivers are constantly looking to destroy the creation of their hated enemy the gods.
The high races live on the mortal plane, it is here that the reality known to the high races was forged. The Plane of Divinity is where the gods reside, watching over all creation and fighting back the incursions of the devil lords into the mortal plane. The Plane of Darkness is where the monsters slumber, waiting to break through into the Plane of Mortals. The Devil Triumdeorate live here in shame and exile, reviled by the gods, plotting the downfall of the gods and high races.

The average follower of Aurelian Paganism is expected to pay their alms to their local temple and attend monthly gatherings to worship the gods. The Salari wield considerable influence in the towns they reside in, and have no problem using their influence to shame those who do not worship the gods or pay alms to the temple. Followers are expected to respect their salari, treat those who worship the 10 as brothers and sisters, and to set themselves against all who worship the Devil Triumdeorate.
During the ides of each month the salari bring followers together to chant prayers to different gods of the pantheon: takes place in a shrine of earth, week two takes places in the open air, week three takes place in the a water shrine, and week four takes place in a fire shrine. During times of war the shrine of war is opened and worship takes place there.
The religion is led by the Pontifex, who lives in the capital, and he is the direct descendant of Auren's first follower, Imreas. Only descendants of Imreas are aloud to hold the office. He is the head of the Chantry of the Divine Founder. The Pontifex lives in the royal palace of the line of Auren, just as Imreas was the first welcomed into the household of Auren, so too is the Pontifex the first to be honored amongst the nobles. The house of Imreas holds no governmental power, but they hold significant power over the policies and influence of the
Chantry of the Divine Founder.
Regular priests, called salari, are appointed by the
Chantry of the Divine Founder. They are taken into the chantry as young men and women and raised to be priests of the true way. It is a great honor to have one's child selected to study under the priests of the chantry, and nobles will often pay great "offerings" to the Chantry to ensure their child gets the best teachers and becomes a salari. Once a priest is brought into the Chantry, they are then schooled for 6 years in history and religious tradition. After their training, they are then assigned to a temple in a location of the Chantry's choosing, and are tasked with leading their temple in worship and making sacrifices to the god of that temple.
The Pontifex is loyal to the king and gods only, and lives in a wing of the palace in order to be close to the king. He is a trusted adviser on religious matters but is still under the authority of the king, as the king is the descendant of Auren.
Old Paganism (heretical)
-Those who ascribe to the old paganism of the time before the Atrean Revelations still worship Izukah, Basa, and Tuatha. The worship of the 3 "devils" is forbidden and, if it is discovered that someone worships them, the offending party is brought to the center of whatever town they live in and burned alive.
