Hoofalls

Hoofalls is the capital city of Dorwine. It was the birthplace of the County and the home of the Count of Dorwine. It is, by far, the County’s largest city and in a land that is sparsely populated it is its most sprawling and cosmopolitan city. It is also one of its most beautiful, Hoofalls is known as the “City of Lamps” because of the thousands of magical lamps that adorn every street and building. Those lamps are maintained by its influential Guild of Lamplighters.

Government

The size and importance of Hoofalls is such that it has its own Baron, Caelynn Meliamne. There is some tension between her and the Count, who she feels favours dwarves too much.

Defences

The central area (“the Old City”) of Hoofalls is walled with towers arranged at regular intervals. There are 4 mighty gates. And in the centre sits Castle Hoofalls an ancient keep. All the fortifications are of sturdy dwarven design and manufacture. The walls are thick and rise over 100 feet.
The Hoofalls Town Guard is more than a town guard, it’s a large standing force of over 1000 soldiers, some of whom are on duty within the city and others further afield.
The town guard is lead by the satyr Ophis who is the Sheriff of Hoofalls

People are fond of the elaborately braided Dwarven hairstyles, even when not Dwarven.
Famed for its potato dishes
The lamps that give the city its name are magical lamps that are lit throughout the city. The Guild of Lamplighters maintains these lamps which are able to change colour, intensity and even blinking in sequence and pattern. This is used to the best advantage by Diero Dyernina and his team to create elaborate displays throughout the city based on season, festival, moments from history or the whim of the Guild so that no two visits to Hoofalls will ever see the same patterns of lights.
