The largely democratic government of Hoofalls is replaced in a military takeover and the city descends into more than 200 years of infighting and chaos.

Appalled at the vulnerability of Hoofalls and what they saw as a policy of appeasement towards other races followed by the civilian government the military attempt to overthrow the government and dissolve the Assembly. Many locals resist the coup and there is no peace in the city for more than 200 years as fighting fills the streets between democratists and the military.
