Montabing

A remote, independent halfling settlement west of Aerey.

Defences

The town gets some natural protection from the valley, the river and the lake. A series of watchtowers has been built into the trees around town to keep an eye out for goblin raiders.
Structures are generally built to blend in with the surrounding forest, which provides some degree of protection.

Industry & Trade

Most residents are farmers or hunters, and live simple lives of cooking, eating, building and enjoying the company of friends.

History

Originally founded by halfling adventurers, who took a liking to the tranquil lake and forest and decided to settle down.

Architecture

Homes are built much like those of Rearinn, though they are generally simpler. Raised homes are preferred to avoid flooding and provide additional insulation, many take a page from the elves and build houses in the trees.
Structures are typically made of interlocking timbers, as metal tends to be scarce and rusts easily. Roofs are steep and curved for strength. Large sliding wooden doors protect the exterior, but are opened up during the day to keep the house cool. Reed screens and blinds are used separate rooms, which can be easily rearranged as needed. A smaller, open structure is often built for entertaining, with an attached outdoor kitchen.
The town has one large central meeting hall, which is used for many purposes. Holiday celebrations, parties, weddings and funerals all take place here.

Geography

The town lies nestled in a valley between a small lake and a river, surrounded by tropical forest.

Natural Resources

Wood is plentiful, as is clay near the river. The halflings here grow wild rice and raise a handful of animals, but most of the meat, fish, fruit and vegetables are foraged from the forest or caught in the lake.
