Guild notice—Warning about candied magic
By order of
His Majesty the king, all guild members in
Nélannie are required to receive an information note to warn them of the dangers of consuming candied magic.
What
A candy filled with magic.
Gives a euphoric sensation & is mildly addictive.
Designed for the magic to be quickly absorbed by the body.
Origin
Developed on the frontier by the army during the
last war.
Used to urgently replenish soldiers' magic during battles so that they can fight for longer.
How
Sugar molecules mutated to hold metallic atoms & charged with magic.
The effects comes from the metals & the magic themselves, no added drugs or other active compounds.
Uses
Initially provided to soldiers in their ration pack.
Then used by professional duellers.
Now use has now expended to the wealthy's
parties & balls.
Flavours
Original model was called "a blood" because hemoglobin was mixed to the sugar molecules to add even more metals & magic.
Since then lots of flavours. Most popular are citrus & berry (still metallic taste).
Dangers
Metal poisoning.
Euphoric sensation leading to loss of sound judgment & endangering tendencies.
Counterfeit version containing drugs & poison.
Weak mages overdosing & going into shock.
Troubles: The use of candied magic was at first limited because it was a state secret. Now that knowledge has filtered to civilian society, the only limit is its exorbitant price. Nevertheless, this has not prevented it from becoming incredibly popular in a minor fraction of society and from creating a lot of problems with too many young and not-so-young people overdosing when they do not first endanger themselves by attempting to fulfil stupid bets. The guild will not stand to be humiliated by the imbecile actions of any of its members!
Furthermore, a recent surge of counterfeit candies has been observed in
Esteille, and all mages are called to be on their guard. Only buy candied magic from certified manufacturers—and if you complain that you cannot afford them as often anymore, that was arguably because you were having too many in the first place! Violate the law and buy from unqualified dealers at your own risks!
I really like how they were first developed for battle and are now used as recreation. XD
Yes, I'm very happy with my happy with these :D High military tech that ends up as a party food/drug for nobles XD Thanks for the comment :D
