St. Michael's Catholic Church - 432 Lich St

Founded in 1854 after purchase of an old Presbyterian church and consecrating it as St. Michael’s, Father Paul Sheene presently presides over the flock along with his junior priest, Father Pierre Shumway.   He feels uneasy about accepting healthy cash donations from Danny O’Bannion, but his theology is up to the task of distinguishing man from money. Father Sheene has been using the money for a boys’ athletic program to help keep some of the neighborhood kids off the streets. A sentimental man, O’Bannion regularly confesses to Father Sheene, but a crooked man as well, he lies whenever convenient.   A secret concrete tunnel connects the rectory with the nearby parish community center, which was the parish orphanage when the tunnel was constructed by the late Father Walsh in the 1930s. A small subterranean chamber in the middle of the tunnel has been the scene of many past iniquities. Father Sheene is unaware of the tunnel and secret room, but Father Shumway has recently rediscovered the passage.
