Smith's Boarding House - 288 Lich St

This well-regarded boarding house is operated by Mr. Phineas Smith and his wife, Harriet, both in their mid-fifties. A second floor room with board costs $65 per month. The Smiths are a stuffy pair, and though the rooms are spacious and well-ventilated and the food is good, they are nosy about their boarders. A tenant late for dinner also finds that the meal has been promptly put away or disposed of; the Smiths never offer a snack. There are four other boarders, including Alain Couzon and Mr. Elisha Waite, the goldsmith.   Alain Couzon is a man about 40 years old. He learned the art of hypnotism in Quebec, and he makes a tiny income from hypnosis, treating people who wish to give up habits or lose abnormal fears and occasionally teaching the skill to a paying pupil. He also makes freelance contributions to magazines, in English and in French. For $300 in advance, Couzon will teach the art of hypnosis over a period of six months.   Also living here is Gibbs, Harriet's over spoiled Pekingese lap dog. Recently Gibbs found a way behind the ground floor walls of the house and has been exploring this new territory when his Mistress isn't paying attention. He has found some curious, and possibly disturbing, things, but he hasn't seen any reason to drag them out from behind the walls yet.   This was once the home of Wilhelmina Spence and Jenna Kale who died in the house in 1913 after an altercation with a knife left both women dead.
