Paul’s Steak House - 140 E College Street

New Jerusalem's venerable and posh restaurant catering to the more refined element, Paul’s is also popular among University professors and affluent fraternity students. It seats thirty, and reservations are required to get a table, often up to a week in advance. Specializing in old-style multi-course meals, Paul’s is the most expensive restaurant in town. The best meals can be steep (up to five dollars per entrée and ten for a full meal), and they are served on good china with real silver. Red wine and champagne are available to patrons. Paul’s has been in the same location since the Civil War, the menu changing little in all that time. For history buffs, a bronze plaque memorializes the table at which General Sheridan once sat. Only open for dinner, 5-9 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.   Charles Arthur works as a waiter at Paul's, and has for years. His manner of speaking is very refined, sounding New England patrician, despite his comparatively lowly upbringing; Charles has worked hard to match his accent to the clientele. He’s also familiar with many of the more notable people in town, being able to recognize them by sight and name. In addition, people often fail to hold their tongues around staff, sometimes treating them as part of the furniture, and Charles knows rather a lot about goings on in the town as a result.
