Magefire Gems

The Mages of the Imperium of Mjidian would sacrifice any captured enemy sorcerers or criminal sorcerers in a ritual that would attempt to bind the souls of these sorcerers to a shard of Elacite. This process more often than not would fail, but when it did succeed these gems would become known as Magefire Gems and would be set into a ring. The Mage who wore the ring would then be able to command and summon these bound souls (who became known as Djenne) to work magic on their behalf.   After the Fall of Mjidian, the knowledge of how to create these gems were lost. And over the centuries the actual purpose of these gems was forgotten by most. The Enaian Mage School still hold around 30 Magefire gems, but few if any are still set in their original ring, most have been reset into other jewellery such as pendants, tiaras or even earrings. They are now a symbol of rank, each Enaian getting one upon promotion to the High Council (these member of the High Council are known as the Asteriae, but are often informally referenced as the Masters of the Jewel). Peiara Sheiret, the current leader (Majenna) of the Enaians is one of the few who understands what the Magefire Gems are and has surreptitiously amassed a private collection of around nine.   It is believed that the Thitan, Ilushan gifted to the Mages of the Imperium of Mjidian, the single Elacite Crystal that was the source of all the shards used to create the Magefire Gems.   The Magefire Gems are small polished gemstones of red and black, with an inner fiery glow when a soul is imprisoned inside.
