Judiciary

The Judiciary, formally known as the Judiciary of Kaladis, is the collective body of the Church of Kaladis, specifcally Kaladisian Arbiter.   Most settlements have turned over their judicial proceedings to the Judiciary, as it is easier to contact the Church of Kaladis than it is to maintain their own judicial system. Major metropolitan areas, such as Ubressa function as the seat of most Circuit Arbiters and the Regional Arbiter courts.

Structure

The Judiciary is organized in a way similar to a secular court structure:   Individual Arbiters and Circuit Arbiters make up the bottom rank of the Judiciary, which are overseen by Regional Arbiters, forming a three-judge or five-judge panel, who are in turn overseen by the High Arbiter Council, a seven-judge panel with executive authority over all of the Kaladisian Judiciary.

Culture

The Judiciary is exceptionally rigid and structured. They teach their members to remain impartial and neutral between the dichotomy of good and evil, but to focus instead on the word and letter of the contracts and laws presented to them by their jurisdictions.

Public Agenda

To maintain the structure of law and contracts.

Assets

Judicial buildings in major metropolitan areas (capitols or cities with over 5,000 population), with stables, carriage houses, and relevant staffing.

History

Not long after the founding of the Kingdom of Falcrest, King Zachariah Falle realized the need for an outside agency to handle judicial concerns. He Church of Kaladis, which had recently established its temple in Ubressa, and together they formed the Judiciary under the auspices of the Crown and the Binder. The church set out a number Kaladisian Arbiters to fill the roles of judges within the fledgling country and its settlements, given funding for these measures by the Crown, and established the court system still in use today.

Political Influence & Intrigue

The Judiciary of Kaladis is seen as a major factor in most lawful societies, and as such often has impact among the legislative decisions made by those societies. Administrative officials, such as a Mayor, Count, and as powerful as Kings often consult with the Judiciary on the establishment of laws.
