The Basics
The southwest corner of the Basin has always been problematic. Back when the Kingdom of Candle'Bre still existed, the province that so-called "Bandit Kings" now call home was named Luria, after one of the more prominent cities there. Unfortunately, the ruling Duke of the Province failed to answer the King's call for aid during a time of need and from then until the splintering of the Kingdom, Luria became derisively known as the province of Hen, in mockery of the Duke's cowardice. After the Kingdom came apart, the fickle men of that region promptly declared their independence from everyone and when they're not fighting amongst themselves, delight in raiding into the Holy Lands. They know full well that the Gold Fields of Sarsgardia are relatively vulnerable, and on two separate occasions, they have managed to briefly wrest control of Candle'Bre's only gold mine. Should they capture and maintain control over that resource, it would instantly catapult the "Bandit Kingdoms" to a place of prominence among the political powers in the Realm. Naturally, the Prelate knows this too, and is doing all he can to keep that from happening. So far, however, he has yet to strike a decisive blow against his foes in the southwest.Political Situation

It would certainly be possible to base an entire campaign in and around the Bandit Kingdoms - probably centered in the Holy Lands with the primary focus being finally quelling that troubled land. It would also be easy to use it as the focus of a series of adventures focused on that same goal, but feeding into the overarching plot of some larger campaign.
