"Folk say that in olden times, a daemon prince fell in love with a mortal. but she loved a man who was her husband. In jealousy, the daemon had her husband killed, and his blood drained into the rivers running down from the Wyldwood. At hearing of the death of her husband, she threw herself into the water, where carnivorous fish at her alive. It is said that her soul remains trapped in the waters of this land for eternity, cursing it to be a hostile place forevermore"

The Canocian Badlands are are long expanse of rolling hills, with dark muddy rivers in between, where water from the highlands runs down towards Lageta and The River Pelorus. The area is constantly muddy, rainy, and difficult to traverse. It is known that hostile creatures frequently live and propogate in the muddy rivers of this area, despite the best efforts of the Order Nautilus. There are a number of bridges and crumbling old fortresses that dot the landscape, but they are generally all controlled by either The Battanian Confederacy, or by outlaw gangs looking to extort merchants and travelers.
From the fortress city of Pen Cannoc, much of these lands are watched day and night for invading armies, and are well patrolled by Battanian rangers.
It is actually easier to use mountain passes to cross through and climb up into the Battanian heartland, than to travel through this area, which is the choice most travellers and merchants make, preferring to use mountain passes near either Marunath or to the West of Dunglanys.
