Werehare (Lycanthropy)

Cabochon is known for its strange laws and species that inhabit it. Perhaps just as strange, are the illnesses and conditions that plague its people. Often these diseases color myth and legend throughout the world: ashy eczema reducing armies to sand, atrophy robbing creatures of health and identity, horrifying hunger that drive the afflicted to consume their brothers, and horrid bites that remodel men into monsters.   While very rare outside of Ochita, Lycanthropy still permeates the mind of travelers of the Wylds. Of its many classical forms, lycanthropy also can take form as werehares. Often explained as "the halfling's curse", popular assumption is that werehare lycanthropy was product of berylfolk alchemy punishing halflings for their mistreatment of the hare-like berylfolk.

Transmission & Vectors

Werehare lycanthropy spreads through the classical vectors: blood, bites, scratches. However, this rarer presentation of the disease also can be transmitted sexually and through sputum. Cases of this form of lycanthropy do not present in berylfolk whatsoever leading experts to believe the disease's fabled origins.

Treatment

Like all forms of lycanthropy, there is no widely recognized cure for the condition. Medicine men and faith healers near exclusively offer treatment as the infectious nature of the disease keeps informed doctors away.
