Dragness

Capital of Drania

Nestled at the heart of Drania where the land begins to narrow toward the southern coasts, Dragness stands as both a political heart and a symbolic cradle of Dranic heritage. Its name, stemming from the old human tongue “Dragon Nest,” reflects the city’s origin as a resting place and stronghold for Drania’s ancient draconic rulers. Though the mighty dragons are gone or in hiding, their legacy remains embedded in the city’s spires, bridges, and vaulted halls.   Dragness is built atop a rocky plateau that offers sweeping views over the surrounding valleys and roads that fan outward like talons from a central nest. Ancient dragonbone columns support many of the oldest buildings, and some claim that the royal palace was once a nesting cavern for a golden wyrm.   The city is a melting pot of cultures. While Dragonborn still hold many elite positions in the upper tiers of government and guilds, the city's growing human majority has driven much of its recent expansion. Temples, embassies, mage towers, and mercantile guilds all find a place within Dragness’s layered walls.   Its harbor, protected by stone-carved wyverns and old sea wards, is one of the largest in the Dragon Sea, bustling with trade from the elven isles, Breania, and even far-off Ostrea. The city's iconic landmark is The Great Roost, a towering citadel at the center of Dragness that houses the throne of the  Wyvern Lord and the meeting chambers of the Elector Princes.
