The Great Roost
Seat of the Wyvern Lord
The Great Roost towers over Dragness like the spine of a sleeping dragon, its blackstone silhouette visible from nearly every corner of the capital. Built upon the highest point of the city’s plateau, the Roost is not just a castle—it is a bastion of legacy, a symbol of draconic supremacy, and the ancient heart of Dranic power. Its name originates from the time of the dragons, when it was believed to be a communal nesting site for the ruling high wyrms that once oversaw the peninsula.
The architecture of the Roost is a masterful fusion of dragonborn stonemasonry and human ingenuity. The lowest tiers are carved directly into the stone of the hill itself—massive vaulted halls, old as the peninsula’s history, where ancestral bones of ancient dragons are said to lie in catacomb-like reliquaries. Higher up, tiered citadel walls form a series of terraces, each with its own courtyard, barracks, stables, and administrative chambers. The uppermost spire, the Throneroost, houses the throne of the Wyvern Lord, surrounded by stained glass windows depicting the peninsula’s most storied battles and draconic myths.
The Roost serves both a ceremonial and administrative purpose. It is the meeting place of the Elector Princes, noble families who each rule major regions and estates of Drania and who come together to elect or reaffirm the rule of the Wyvern Lord. At its peak is the Hall of Flame, a grand chamber with an eternal flame said to be lit by dragonfire, where coronations, diplomatic summits, and high court trials take place.
Despite its grandeur, the Roost remains an active military installation. Its gates are guarded by elite Wyvern Guard, often Dragonborn of noble blood, and its topmost towers bristle with roosts for messenger drakes and griffon patrols. Deep vaults and hidden chambers are rumored to hold ancient weapons and artifacts from before the Black Age—some even say remnants of draconic power bound in rune-locked vaults.
