The Ghvaris Guard
Structure
- Lord Protectorate: The leader in charge of the whole police and Judicial system usually a follower of the Justiciar, sometimes has been a follower of the Platinum Knight, rarer other gods. The Lord Protectorate holds a position in the royal court. Can create laws but must be presented to the King for approval.
- High Judges: Grand Priests, Clerics, or Paladins to the Justiciar who maintain and assist in the creation of laws usually in the form of council to the Lord Protectorate.
- Knight-Captain: A representative of one of the Knightly Orders of Rhyderia is charged with the overseeing of a district serving a similar function to that of a commissioner or chief.
- Captain: The highest rank a commoner can achieve in the Ghvaris and still remain a commoner. While rare it is possible for a worthy Captain to be brought into a Knightly Order. These captains are in charge of individual guard houses.
- Sergeant: Serves as management for the Ghvaris with more authority to make decisions a Sergeant is a Ghvaris of some renown. This is where they must make a decision to remain in the guard, go into the military, or become a judge if they wish to continue along the career paths before them.
- Ghvaris: The standard guard that can be seen patrolling or watching over the citizens as they go about their life.
- Initiate: A trainee usually brought along with a Ghvaris or a Sergeant in rare cases they can be trained by higher ranks.
History
The original Ghvaris Order dates back to the first age where a group of mages sought to expel the extraplanar threats from their world as well as protect the innocent caught in the war between gods, the elemental forces of good and those of evil. These original masters soon found that their magic alone was not enough to see their vision completed and so they partnered with like-minded followers of the Platinum Knight who began to teach martial combat and armor mastery creating the first true example of the Ghvaris Order an order of Mage-Knights that was met with resounding success expelling the extraplanar and putting down the threat of hostile spellcasters. After the First Age, their prominence began to wane, their final gasp was when they fought against the Cult of Raxanis immediately after 'The Scouring' where cultists overwhelmed the remaining Mage-Knights in a bloody ambush.
The Ghvaris now are the guard force of Rhyderia given the name in remembrance of the now lost order of Mage-Knights who fought for the protection of others above all else. While few of the guards have magical ability there are a few who seek to honor the Ghvaris Order by giving service with their abilities. The academy where the Order was taught remains open teaching the next generation of Abjurers rather than having a connection to these guards.
