The Church of St Dristle
The church of Saint Dristle is the oldest church in Balliston, founded upon the teachings of St Agaropulous Dristle, a follower and teacher of the god Talvo. It is the largest and most powerful of the churches in Balliston, and holds a position of preeminence and authority over all of the others, with the head of the church being viewed as the highest member of any church body, with the rights and duties to make final say in decisions relating to religious life.
It is based in Arches, in the Principality of Renelestre.
Structure
Each church is shepherded by a priest, with some larger churches and cathedrals shepherded by a monsignor. Localised groups of the church are run by a Bishop, who serves the cardinals of the wider church. The Church of St Dristle is one of the few church organizations for whom Cardinal is not the highest office, as in this case, it is led by the Patriarch Santini Dalmas himself.
Culture
The Church of St. Dristle is one the bastions of traditional thinking. Given their worship of Talvo and Ginevra, the husband and wife god-pair, the church is a staunch supporter of the traditional family roles, and outside of positions in the knightly orders the church's view on the appropriate roles for women lies in direct contradiction with the views supported by the guilds.
Tenets of Faith
The church of St Dristle is concerned with prayer, family, and living a life worthy of song. They emphasize doing the right thing, even when doing so goes against your self-interest, and they proclaim the equality of all men under the might of the gods.
