The Guardian of Avestra (Eh-no)
Eno (a.k.a. The Guardian of Avestra, The Knight of Eternity)
When he arrived, it was like the fog had lifted from our minds. The darkness of the battle had been dispelled. The Daemons hesitated for the first time in this long war. And that was enough to seal their fate. His silver eyes shined like the Divine with wrath against the Fiends. And once they were gone, his eyes softened. The Warrior who smote the enemy turned to the Guardian that gave us hope. That memory has stuck with me to this day and I shall never forget that. Forget him. Our Guardian.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Eno often appears as a figure adorned in white or silver, whether his eyes, hair, clothing, scales or fur. A fit individual with no scars who is constantly gentle to his friends, stern to those who need it, and terrifying to his enemies. He is every bit the Guardian people think he is.
Body Features
Eno wears different forms depending on who he's dealing with. He does have several notable forms that are recognized by the general populace. His most notable is the true Eternal Form he was born with. He appears as a walking cloak with gloves, boots, shirt, and pants. Additionally, he wears a hood with no face underneath, only the darkness of the hood and silver eyes. He doesn't take this form often until he is facing a threat that requires his full attention. If he pulls the hood down, he appears to be a young adult Human of Nomi descent. with silver eyes and white hair. He wore that face when he arrived on Avestra and many statutes have been made with that appearance.
Another form he takes is that of a Lunari since they are seen as the most common mortal guardians of the realm. His fur is often white or silver with burning blue eye. This is his most common form as people are often at ease when they see a Lunari. This was the form he took when he rallied the heroes of the land against the Eternal Empire, the Daemons, and the Fell Dragon alike.
His last notable form is that of a Togikari Draxeeli, a slender and more serpentine version of the dragonfolk. His scales, more similar to a carp than a dragon in shape and texture are silver and his eyes are yellow slits with white sclera. He has two horns similar to antlers protruding from the back of his head and white white fur trailing down the back of his head, his spine, and down his tail to the tip as well. He mainly takes this form when meeting with dragons and dragonfolk but he was known to have this form when he dealt with the twelfth century Fell Rampage.
Identifying Characteristics
The silver eyes of the Guardian are his most identifiable trait. He chooses to keep that eye color for most forms so allies and enemies alike known when he is around. Though there are rumors abound him going incognito so the white hair, scales, or fur is another signature feature of his.
Special abilities
As an Eternal, Eno has abilities that are common to Eternal but also specific to him. He possesses immortality and the ability to regenerate from fatal wounds such as the ones dealt to him by the Fell Dragon many times. He can fly without need for wings and shift his appearance to any form he wishes. He has also gained the ability to cast arcane magic but unlike what most think, he can't use divine magic.
Eno has unique strength and speed, on part with the strongest adventurers and even beyond them if pushed to it. He can also launch blasts of energy but they appear to be made of star matter, able to burn through creature weak to sunlight with ease. But like how his brother can somehow generate an inactive singularity, Eno can create a star itself, using it as fuel for his blasts or even expanding or detonating it for destructive potential.
Apparel & Accessories
The Guardian's main apparel is that of his Eternal robes and white gloves and boots. He will sometimes switch this to a more casual outfit with a tunic and trousers to go with the boots. Of course, he is likely to change the color of his outfit since white stands out in a crowd, shifting to colors such as grey or brown. When he might see battle and doesn't wish to hold his true form, he summons armor that looks like it's made of a silver or crystalline nature but is tougher than most known metals. Supposedly, the armor is inspired by that worn by the Creator.
Specialized Equipment
Eno used to have a blade made from the shard of Enu's armor but changed it to a shield capable of weathering any blow. It has seen many uses over the centuries and he has even given it to adventures to use. The last person besides him to use that shield was the Marked Draxeeli from the Fell Rampage of 1150.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Eno was born the last child of the Creator, Enu, and as one of the last First Generation Eternals. In the beginning of the fledgling universe, he grew under the tutelage of Vita and Mortem and alongside Ano as his brother. The two of them would gaze up at the night sky and see the empty void and wish there was more. And a thought came to them, they could make it be more. The two of them planned and nudged the universe in just the right way to fill the night sky with the stars they would one day gaze up at and even explore. However, a falling out between the brothers happened that led to The Eternal Civil War. Their calamitous battle could've destroyed the universe had Aeternum not vanished, leaving no trace of the Eternals.
Eno returned with his people when the X'ith'ila attacked Avestra with the Aberrations. While Ano landed in Edrinia, Eno went to Alus where he met the defenders, led by Vernim, the Dragon Emperor, and Sazen, the High King of Giants. They fought together against the encroaching tide in a great battle at the beginning of the Eternal Age. Little is known about what he did in the wake of The War for Avestra but there were rumors about him traveling with his brother.
He returned to the pages of history in the seventh century with the rise of The Eternal Empire. He couldn't accept his kind ruling over mortals so he inspired kingdoms and heroes to rise against his fallen pupil, the Eternal Emperor. Ano stoked the ambition and drive of the Ancients and the young and old species attacked the capital of the Empire, killing the dream of an Eternal Empire.
The Emperor escaped, heading to his stronghold for some reason no one may truly know. The brothers Eternal went there together and only one was seen leaving. The battle destroyed the stronghold and something led to the opening of a singularity that served as a gateway. This was the beginning of The Daemon Invasion of the eighth century. Eno once again spearheaded the charge as the continent of Alus attempted to recover. He dealt with the rise of The Fell Dragon in 750 and every world threatening conflict that rose under the continent beat back the Daemons and closed the portal. Around this time, Ano resurfaced, causing rumors that he was to blame for the Daemons.
In the wake of these centuries of chaos, Eno took a break, disappearing from history. However, he only enjoyed 50 years of this before the Fell Dragon returned again. This time, he fought it alone and killed it. He didn't find rest this time, staying and serving as an advisor, a leader, a hero. Eno became the Guardian of Avestra and served as a bulwark against all threats too great for mortals to handle. However, after the last Fell Dragon attack in 1150, something changed. Eno continues his tasks but some wonder if he grows tired of this. If the Guardian chooses to remove himself from history, will he finally be done? And how will Avestra cope with his absence?
Education
Eno learned much under the first children, Mortem and Vita. But his tutelage never ended as he studied under the last emperor and high king about the history and fall of the ancient empires. He learned from mortals about The Ancient Age. He has been seen heading to libraries and seeking out scholars and sages alike to learn from them when he has moments between crises. 'All in an attempt to use the information he learned to create a better future.
Accomplishments & Achievements
If the stories are to beleived, Eno and Ano helped to nudge the universe as it is into existence. Eno has never explained how he did so, only that it took plenty of time and energy. His next major accomplishment was the saving of Avestra from the Outer Ones but little is known whether it was he or another Eternal that struck the final blow. He mainly recognizes the courage of all who fought in that war.
Eno did not lead the rebellion against the Eternal Emperor but he was a key advisor to the heroes who would led the charge. He aided them to unite the Orc tribes led by Orzag and the dispersant kingdoms led by Arachni, Elves, Goblin , Dwarves, and more. All of them united behind the ideal of freedom from the Eternal Empire's tyranny. In the end, those forces worked together to defeat the Empire and keep power in the hands of Avestrans.
This continued during the Daemonic Incursion and the Fell Dragon's rise, one crisis after another but he held firm. He aided the adventuring party that slayed the first incarnation of the Fell Dragon and helped many forces hold the line against the Daemons. There was no rest, no relaxation, no time to breathe and yet the hero of the War for Avestra kept going until the rift was finally sealed.
His accomplishment for the Fell Dragon would continue every century but his great was in the mid years of the twelfth century the Fell Dragon obliterated the old capital of Bra'Lakun and caused chaos. This could've spelled the beginning of a massacre by a powerful, older Fell Dragon but Eno rallied the Alusian forces and struck down the dragon with a survivor from it's first attack and a Togikari dragon.
Failures & Embarrassments
Despite his involvement in the fight against the Eternal Empire, Eno is not usually one for toppling kingdoms. He refuses to be part of any conflict that is between two mortal factions. When the Nevarran Empire cut swaths through The Elysian Ocean and made landfall in Edrinia, he played no part. When the dragons and giants resurrected their fallen empires, he did nothing even as they started conquering. The rise of the Skuvtun Orcs, nothing. The split of the dragon empire, silence. He sees no reason to advise or intercede in mortal matters unless innocents are harmed or displaced. He instead sees fit to have the leaders aid him against whatever greater threat lurks in Avestra.
Another embarrassment other see is his lack of effort with the Lone Wanderer, his brother. There are several times where Ano has supposedly caused trouble and the Guardian has been too kind and too soft in people's eyes. There was destruction of the kingdom of Windkeep and the death of the entire royal family. Then there was his supposed involvement in the Daemon invasion. However, Eno has fought for his brother at every step of the way and quickly shuts down any threats or concerns, no matter how valid the latter may be.
His greatest failure is allowing King Dakon to fool him into believing the Fell Dragon was dead in 1050, allowing Bra'lakun to take the body. This led to Its resurgence in the twelfth century when it destroyed the old capital and nearly killed Eno. It caused an upheaval that led to many dying, countless becoming refugees, and the schism of Bra'lakun. This was a dark stain on the Guardian's reputation even as he spearheaded the counterattack. It shattered many dragons' faith in him and has made them question if the Eternals are truly ascendant and if they can be supplanted.
Mental Trauma
While the Guardian expresses an air of assuredness, there have been signs that the centuries are wearing him down. In the wake of the last Fell rampage, Eno's inner circle has shrunk. While he is cordial with many, there are few he will sit and have talks with anymore. perhaps, Dakon's betrayal of his trust has made him jaded and closed off. So while he values everyone, he doesn't trust them alone anymore.
Morality & Philosophy
Eno is a good person as far as anyone can see. He does all he can to protect the innocent and stop evil. But he refuses to take a leadership position to lead mortalkind as he and his brother created the rule that Eternals will never rule over non-Eternals. Eno refuses to intercede in mortal conflict as it is theirs to deal with. He instead focuses on threats too big for them to handle or aids adventures who do the same.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Eno is always focused on helping the most people when he goes out to aid others. It is why he has no concern with political matters such as who rules over who. Because a game of thrones matters little to the small folk as long as they are left alone. And yet him pulling away from that role in the aftermath of the War for Avestra and the Daemon crisis. Perhaps he wishes that he could pull away from the world once more but the chaos and evil rising in the wake of his actions refuse to let him go.
Representation & Legacy
Eno's legacy is apparent even as he lives. The number of people he's inspired across history for good or ill are quite apparent. Heroes who he enlisted in great adventures and villains who wish to see him fall are innumerable by this point. The Fell Dragon sees him as one of the few worthy foes and even someone It can talk to and nations are keen to have him on their side. But that legacy, that influence is dangerous. Faiths and cults have began to stir around him and even if he offers no power, their faith in him does and faith can be used to cause chaos and evil even when centered on a good man.
Social
Contacts & Relations
While Eno doesn't trust or talk to many, he does allow others to approach him. Notable figures like the monarchs of Bra'Lakun, the senators of Ziminsi , and the Emperors of The Twin Shogunates and Virush. He's spent plenty of time with them, talking to them for hours on end about advice and what to do with the current events of their nations. They even try to convince him to intercede but he never does. After all, one king already broke his trust, why would he allow any other leader to do the same.
Eno also keeps in touch with The Adventurers' Guild, seeing the adventurers as the main bulwark against threats to Avestra he can't deal with personally. They are an example of the legacy he wishes to leave behind as they will take up his mission and continue to protect the world, even if he can't.
The only person that Eno keeps in regular contact with beyond representatives of organizations and nations is Nadiri, the dragon who was by his side during his last fight against the Fell Dragon. If he were to have an equal intellectually, she is one of the few that he would ever admit to. When he travels the land, she is usually by his side or the one to bring information to him that he is needed elsewhere. There have been questions about the nature of their relationship but nothing anyone would dare to ask him or her.
Family Ties
Ano is the closest family Eno has on Avestra, despite what should be a rocky history and their differing reputations. The two have a bond that appears almost unbreakable, even when anyone tries to persuade the Guardian otherwise. There have been times when Eno has called on his brother for aid and the Lone Wanderer is immediately there to help, highlighting the Guardian as one of the few who could make the Lone Wanderer actively help people.
Mortem is a rare figure to most of Avestra but the only times he has been seen on the Jewel of Eternity has been when he was spoken with the Guardian. The two of them have worked together to deal with undead and Daemonic threats that threat the realm a handful of times, the most infamous being the Daemonic Invasion. However, they have both been seen dragged someway to relax by Vita, suggesting that even they can't resist her want for them to take a break. It is assumed by scholars that Mortem has a fatherly role for Eno as he is one of the few that the Guardian will seek advice from that aren't mortals and the way they carry themselves are almost mirror reflections.
Vita's many sightings on Avestra have come with her in the company of the Guardian. The Explorer always makes sure to make Avestra a respite from her travels and she is often one of the few who can pull Eno away from his work. There have been quite a few comedic stories about the Guardian doing everything in his power to change the tide of battle and then the Explorer will appear with her rarely holding together Nethership and ultimate win the battle before dragging Eno off for tea.
Religious Views
Eno recognizes the gods and their role in the world. He recognizes their influence and the good and evil they've caused same as him. But like the rest of the first generation Eternals, he can't fathom having faith in them. He is the last child and the reincarnation of Enu, born to a world before gods, before mortals. And he lives with the certainity the creators of the Eternals, basically their gods, are dead. As a result, he can't have faith in the gods or the celestials or warden who serve or work beside them. He'll work with them but he can never find himself worshipping them.
Social Aptitude
Eno is always respectful to others until they prove themselves unworthy of his respect. He is confident and assured in his actions but he is always willing to listen to other people's advice and change his mind if what they suggest is better than what he knows. The Guardian makes a habit to learn the language of those he speaks to, speaking in their native tongue so he can best understand them and how they think. However, should his respect be denied or he should be frustrated or overwhelmed, he has a habit of slipping into vulgarity just like his brother.
