The Lone Wanderer (Ah-No)

Ano

Ano is one of the oldest Eternals in the universe and one of the most powerful. A successor to a survivor from the end of the last universe on top of that. Not much is known about him that he doesn't allow to be known whether through him talking or him allowing others to see him. As such, most of this information is suspect and may be wrong. But the Lone Wanderer has done little to support or refute anything here. Until we have a chance to speak with him further.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

When in his Eternal form, Ano appears as a walking set of a cloak, boat, gloves, and a hood, all colored black. He has multiple forms that he likes to switch between, depending on what region he's in but they're usually human.

Body Features

Every part of Ano's body is malleable enough to change through shapeshifting but he often has types he returns to. Often, he is either a lean or well-built human of taller than average height.

Identifying Characteristics

Ano never gives up the black hair that many of his alters are known for. However, he hides his purple eyes sometimes, choosing instead to have brown eyes or grey eyes that allow him to blend in.

Special abilities

As an Eternal, Ano has the ability to shapeshift into whatever form he chooses, whether humanoid or otherwise. His seeable abilities: have been marked as:
  • Teleport to any location as long as he can see it visually or accurately remember it
  • Enhanced Strength and Constitution
  • Create blasts of any energy type, usually one handed
  • Flight
  • Snap with his left hand to replicate any magical effect or spell
  • Snap with his right hand to eradicate anything he targets
  • Regeneration

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Ano was born as the successor and reincarnation of Anu, the Eternal of Destruction and the survivor of a previous universe. As such, it was one day his destiny to bring about the end of the universe and usher in another. However, he chose to go against that identity until it was absolutely necessary, choosing instead to create and learn. As such, he and his brother, Eno, created countless realms across the universe and they culminated it with the creation of Avestra. Eventually, some pulled the two brothers apart and made them war against each other and many Eternals either joined one of the brothers' sides while a few chose to side with neither. Their battle rocked the foundation of the universe and could've heralded its end if not for Aeternum and all Eternals vanishing.

His role in the war against the X'ith'ila is often debated amongst historians and reincarnations of those who were there. Regardless, he chose not to return to Aeternum after the war, choosing instead to wander Avestra in whatever guise suits him. What he plans, no one knows. Some say his plans are malevolent, spreading discourse and mayhem so the X'ith'ila or maybe he can have an easier time laying waste to the universe. Others say he simply wishes to aid people where he can, preparing them for coming threats. But regardless, he is a figure in Avestran history that can't be ignored.

Gender Identity

The ability to change his appearance as he wills allows him a greater understanding of his identity compared to non-Eternals. However, Ano across the majority of his appearances has displayed himself as a man. Though, he has had a few moments where he takes the persona of a lady... to mixed and sometimes hilarious results.

Sexuality

As an Eternal, the answer is often "It doesn't matter". He has displayed an interest in different people across the years. Nothing ever lasting a long time but that never really mattered to him. Anyone can interest him and that's the way he likes it.

Morality & Philosophy

As enigmatic as he portrays himself, there are constants to Ano's methods as people have observed. When push comes to shove, he is defending those he allies himself with, whether they be strangers or people he's closely familiar with. The most common example is when Eno calls to his brother for aid against aberration activity or if he stumbles across it himself during his travels. However, when there is no one that he cares to agree with, he does what suits his interests.

Social

Contacts & Relations

  • Gith: The Githyanki are seen as the one group that all view him with a positive light. Whenever they operate on Avestra against the Elders and aberrations, he can be found with them, coordinating or even fighting alongside them. The Githzerai only ever view him as a nuisance at worst or a brother to their mentor at best.
  • The "Descendants" of Ano: This refers to any person who has the powers of Ano from either being near him too long or having an ancestor or parent near him too long. He actively hunts down anyone might be like this and takes their power from them. For what reason, no one truly knows but he looks for them above all else once word gets out.
  • The Children of Ano: Actual children of Ano are children he's adopted and looked after during his time on Avestra. He sees them like his trueborn children and will do anything to defend them. Currently, their identities are a mystery as his first child was supposedly killed due to their connection to Ano. And anyone who harms his children will no doubt face his wrath as well as anyone who stood by and watched.

Family Ties

  • The Protector of Avestra: Ano and Eno see each other as brothers, tethered by their destinies. Despite everything that has happened between them, their banter together still has that brotherly bond to it.
  • The Protector of Mortis: Mortem has few reasons to leave the realm of Mortis but when he does, it's usually because of Ano to either check up on him or get him to stop whatever chaotic thing he's up to. When seen together, Mortem often seems like a father or uncle to Ano.
  • The Explorer of Realms: A fellow explorer, Vita visits all the realms, leaving Avestra to Ano. The two of them are always sharing stories when they meet and there's never a moment of antagonism between the two. It's probably the one bond that can't be shaken by whatever the Wanderer does.

Religious Views

When Ano makes an appearance near churches, he is often questioning believers in their faith. Clergy that don't immediately cast him out had said to have conversation with him about their faith. He appears to be curious, constantly searching for signs that the gods are real and if they are, where they could be found. Since he is a powerful being, perhaps he views them as rivals in his bid to eradicate the universe. Or maybe he wishes to thank those who looked after the universe he helped to make while the Eternals were missing.

In different faiths, Ano is sometimes displayed as a demon or trickster who will tempt people into going astray. Often times, he finds this hilarious and does nothing to dissuade people from thinking otherwise. He does as he pleases and that's what matters in how he's portrayed in faith.

Social Aptitude

There are two ways Ano portrays himself when he's not one of his personas. He is either a casual and carefree person or a deeply calculating and well-spoken person. In the first mode, he is at ease, even when in a hostile environment. Most people fear this version of him as it could hint he's up to no good. And they never know when he's going to be set off by someone going too far. The well-spoken persona shows just how old he is as he carefully thinks out what he wants to say. He often speaks to anyone who has information on the lore of Avestra. Or prisoners that might get him one step closer to the Elders.

Rumors

Many rumors have been spawned around Ano since his reappearance in Avestra, starting from the day he made landfall. Supposedly, he arrived in the Elu region as they fought back against the aberrations. According to local accounts, portals were torn open around him as he arrived. Some claim fiends came through the portal to aid him in battle against the aberrations while others say that more aberrations came through to help him push back against the Elu defenders. All that's known is by the end of it, Ano was holding the body of the leader of the defenders and delivering her back to her people before disappearing.

Another instance he's been attributed to has been the rise of adventurers due to his nature of giving power to people, either by awakening power that was hidden within them or training them. There have been tales about people who rose to greatness claiming that he helped them. And then there are the countless more about evil people or people mistreated in their youth who dished out the pain they felt on others. All the while, he hasn't shown any response to these actions, even with the lose of life they cause.
Other events he supposedly had a hand in include:
  • The obliteration of the Aerin city of Windkeep in current-day Crystalia
  • The slaughter of an entire army in the Elu region
  • Throwing an entire city into the plane of Devum
  • Defending Alus from a demonic invasion
  • Several different incidents in the Underoads
