Gith

We were the first to learn the savagery of the Elders. We were the first to learn of their destructive drive to erase all of reality. We fled when we knew we couldn't beat them. To warn you. And yet you ignored us. And when we were proven right, you lashed out at us for it. It was only through the acts of the Eternals and their leaders that we survived, that we learned our true path. While some may cling to Eno and his way of mercy, the followers of Ano know the truth. While they covet Wisdom, we will covet strength. We will seek out all threats to Gith kind and to our new homeland and we will exterminate them. We shall return the deaths on Gistra tenfold and one day, we will take back our homeland. But until that day comes, all Aberrations shall learn to fear the Gith.
— Githyanki Declaration, Year 50 of the Eternal Age

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gith appear to be large bipedal humanoids. Average Gith appear to be emaciated but the way they move and eat suggests that is just an appearance they all share. Rumors persist that this is related to the portals they went through or their time in the Astra shifting their appearance. Githyanki have more bulky builds while Githzerai have more slender builds.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The Gith usually live on Avestra if the race as a whole is accounted for. The Githyanki prefer the Astra, always watching the wreckages of Aberration vessels for parts that can be used for their vessels or any threats coming across it. The Githzerai, to attempt to reach the enlightenment that Eno reached, went to Nistra to learn how to balance the Chaos and Order inherent in all people.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Due to their war against the Elders and their forces, the Gith's natural psionic talent has been further magnified. The Githyanki have learned to use their psionics to physically empower themselves while the Githzerai have learned to defend themselves magically and even learn to cast some spells with their psionic talent.

Civilization and Culture

History

If one is to believe the Gith, their homeland, Gistra, was a paradise before the Elders came. They were capable of incredible magical feats that put to shame even the most experienced Avestran Wizard. Only the Eternals could rival the splendor of their cities and the majesty of their people. Cities built to last a 1000 years dotted the landscape of their world and as the only people of it, they were masters.

All that history, all that culture, all the love the Gith had poured into their home was lost when the Elders found them. When the Gith made war, they did it for sport. Always willing to hear out the side of the defeated and make sure they were treated with fairness. None of that came from the Elders. For the destruction of the Gith homeworld, they sent the Illithids, supposedly old enemies of the Gith as some Illithid prisoners have explained. Helped by other Aberrations, they swept through Gistra with malice and fury never seen before. Cities were lost in a matter of hours. People were slaughtered if they were lucky or chained and used as entertainment or food if they weren't.

Within a year of first landfall, the Aberrations took Gistra from the Gith and began a widespread genocide of their species. Left with no choice, the Gith were forced to abandon their home, fleeing through a magical network of portals they crafted for themselves. They were launched from their home as it was turned into a new hive world for the Aberratons and landed on planes across Avestra with the same warning: The Elders are Coming.
And yet these warnings went unheeded. Until the Elders came in force and ravaged the planes. Across these different realms, the some thought came to mind: The Gith were the ones who brought the Elders here. And so even while worlds burned, the Gith were persecuted by everyone and everything that despised the Elders. Even as they fought on the frontlines themselves, they could never be accepted because they were the ones blamed.

Their salvation only came when the Eternals returned and ended the invasion almost single-handedly. And it was these enigmatic beings from the dawn of time who saved the Gith from further persecution. To be exact, it was the two leaders of the Eternals: Ano and Eno. And those two leaders were the ones who caused the divide between the Gith.

The ones who followed Ano and his path of strength and intelligence became the Githyanki. They would focus on their marital prowess to defend themselves and to hunt down the Elders and the Aberrations that serve them. To get revenge on those that harmed them. The ones who followed Eno and his path of wisdom and magical prowess became the Githzerai. They would not let revenge take them, choosing to be better and help to defend their new homelands, even if people wouldn't trust them. Now the Gith serve as faithful agents of the two Eternals, searching for their enemies wherever they may hide. They already lost Gistra but they will not lose Avestra.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Gith revere the Eternals, viewing them as saviors of Gith kind. Those of the Githyanki lineage prefer those that follow Ano while the Githzerai prefer Eno and his followers. However, this division hasn't caused them to go to war with each other despite everything thanks to the effort of the brothers.

If there is one species the Gith can't help but mistrust, it is the Kalashtar. An Elder experiment now living freely in the world, they think of them as sleeper agents, waiting for them to be turned on by the Elders to cause chaos across Avestra. There have been quite a few times where an innocent Kalashtar was killed by a Gith. Not frequently but enough to cause tension between the two sides.

And above all else, the Gith despise the Elders. Even those who let their hatred go will never forgive them for what they took from them. All Gith who remember have a dream to one day return and cleanse Gistra of the filth that corrupts it. But until that day comes, increasing the body count of Aberrations killed by them will do.
