Ikhans Ethnicity in Ardre | World Anvil

Ikhans

The most populous ethnicity of the Holy Qhaganate of Zalja. The Ikhans claim direct descent from the ancient Ikha, one of the two indigenous peoples of ancient Zalja. They can be found in most rural settlements, especially in the central, eastern, and southern areas of the nation. They are especially concentrated in the capital city of Tsen Ikha. They are an ethnic majority in most locations, with the notable exceptions being northwestern Zalja and of course Bariat Uur, where the Uurish predominate.   Though the Ikhans and the Uurs were historic enemies, they have coexisted for centuries, with many generations of intermarriages. The two peoples are largely differentiated now by minor cultural distinctions, with the Ikhans being seen as slightly more ceremonious in religion, a little more forward-thinking on matters of sex and gender, and being allegedly more interested in the practicalities and convenience of modern magic than the study itself. This latter point extends primarily to the people of Tsen Ikha itself, of course, as most rural Ikhans have little to do with visrite.
