Durants

Named for the Undaunted Coast where they reside, Durants are Bastisi who live along the Triangle Sea, subsisting principally as sailors or fisherfolk. They are commonly viewed as a wiry folk with swarthy skin from the coastal winds. Although the Bastisi as a whole are not as homogenous as many think, the Durants' greater variety of appearance more likely comes from their more frequent commerce with Khabarese and Monosi merchants (among others). Like all Bastisi, Durants are regarded (unjustly, many would say) as mean and petty. Piracy is rare in the Triangle Sea, but when it does occur, many look to Madport as the source.
The Durants are believed to have descended chiefly from Urudunite refugees of the Khabarese Crusade that fled north up the coast, seeking protection. They are principally Host Keepers, and are known to keep the Rights sacredly, even more than proper worship.
