Dorre Bastion - 4th Known Ruler of Revellia

Called the Gatekeeper

King Dorre Bastion

Reign: 675 RA - 698 RA
Wizards: Brinid Binder, Brinid Younger   Though called the Gatekeeper, King Dorre would be known far better as an aggressor.   He ended the Bastion Rebellion within a year of his ascension. Such was his taste for battle, however, that he had little interest in governance.   His Wizards, Brinid Binder and later Brinid Younger, would govern the realm. This led to several minor uprisings from those who objected: to wizards, women, or both. Rather than take his realm into hand, Dorre would spend his life putting down these rebellions. All the while, the ancient Clan Ainros and the newer Clan Graunt grew stronger.   Dorre died of his years in 698 RA and was succeeded by his chosen heir, his third son Corrik .

Mental characteristics

Personal history

History recounts Dorre Bastion as little more than a killer. When his elder brother King Corris sat the throne, Dorre was content to put down rebellions on his orders and nothing more. Many have suggested that Dorre picked up his slain brother's crown on the battlefield purely by impulse.   Dorre was said to be a large child, fighting when others were still learning to walk. He reportedly fought a hollymock at seven years old with a boy of twelve about a matter of some stolen apples. Dorre broke three shields before the boy could land a single blow. The other boy's name is not given, however, so many suggest this story was an invention.   Stories or no, Dorre was an incredible warrior, laying down two and three men at a time in battle. It is said he once leapt from a horse to tackle a Breyv who was slaying archers. This story may also be invention, but if so the tales are only accenting what was known.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Winning the Bastion Rebellion, regardless of how it was done, must necessarily sit high in Dorre's crown. Based on what we know of prior kings, it seems likely that succession was a murky and chaotic matter before Dorre put down his brothers. Primogeniture would not become traditional for long years after the rebellion, but there is no question that Dorre's rule did much to introduce stability into the matter of succession.

Failures & Embarrassments

Though he reportedly showed no repentance of it, many have called it Dorre's eternal shame to have executed so many of his own brothers following the Rebellion. The exact amount is unknown, nor is it known exactly how many sons Harrek the Thief  fathered, but one account by Brinid Binder listed nine executed brothers by name, finishing with "and divers others."
