Century Wars Military Conflict in Ardre | World Anvil

Century Wars

As the name suggests, the Century Wars were a series of conflicts between Milos and southern Monos that lasted nearly one-hundred years. It ended with the signing of the Grand Geas, wherein Milos officially abolished monarchy and thus any official loyalty to the King of Kings in Monos.   Although Monos was a frequent source of military support, this war was fought primarily between Yfruel and the Southern Cantons: Ethel, Urudun, Revellia Canton, and especially Bastis. The Southern Cantons were largely unified during the wars, but infighting cropped up more than once, and alliances were often fragile.   The Century Wars officially ended in 8 NA, with the Great Conclave and the signing of the Grand Geas. Fighting would continue for two-and-a-half decades, however, until Yvruel signed the Geas in 33 NA and officially became the Yfri Fields Canton.   This would also result in the creation of two new cantons: Kingsrift and the Hostlands. Kingsrift was founded by the Roylians and the Milosi, peoples with heritage in both Milos and Monos, who desired independence from Yfri. The Hostlands were also founded on land taken from Yfri, and established as a religious center independent from Monosi influence.

The Conflict

Prelude

Monosi soldiers from the Mortal Kingdom of Westheart marched south through major settlements of Bastis and Lorden in order to invade Revellia and seize three years of taxes that had not been paid to the King of Kings. This would lead to armed conflict between Bastis  and Yvruel, the latter of whom welcomed the Westheart soldiers and allowed them to invade the Southern Cantons uncontested.

Outcome

The Great Conclave saw the signing of the Grand Geas, which abolished monarchy in the Southern Cantons.

Aftermath

Twenty-five years after the Great Conclave, Yvruel would sign the Grand Geas as well, ending the last royal line in Milos. Yvruel, now calling itself the Yfri Fields, also surrendered over a third of its land to the formation of two new cantons: Kingsrift and the Hostlands.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The Century Wars led to a massive cultural shift and the birth of a fierce spirit of independence in Milos. Host Keeping is still predominant in Milos, but the King of Kings no longer rules over the Lordslands in any official capacity.
