Borruq

A species of wild swine that roam the Fiirwood at the southern coast of Milos. Borruqs are believed to be the descendants of the mythical torruqs, which the ancient Aernigh supposedly rode into battle like horses. Borruqs are large and dangerous creatures, but so many are the terrors of the Fiirwood that borruqs are considered a ready source of meat for the many peasants of the area.   The first known king of Revellia, home of the Fiirwood, was named Baarach, and many believe he was named for the great pigs, or possibly the other way round. This has been used both to shame his memory and the glorify the beasts and their meat.
Domestic Borruq by Lais Vaccaro
Because horses are so rare and expensive in southern Milos, borruqs have been domesticated and bred to carry people. Sturdier breeds with smaller tusks are used to carry loads, drag plows, and as transport, while other, fiercer breeds carry soldiers into battle. In many ways, the Borruq has become a symbol of the power of Clan Beth, the rulers of Revellia.   Like all swine, borruqs are assumed to be children of the svaroqs from the Wyrmnest Valley in the south-central Calvoran Highlands.
