Ashlyn the Tall Character in Ardre | World Anvil

Ashlyn the Tall

Wizard Ashlyn

Wizard under Tranton Gall, Harrek Bastion, and Corris Bastion   Little is known about Wizard Ashlyn, save that she was vital in the governance of Revellia during the emergence from the Lost Age. King Tranton famously went on grand adventures searching for his five queens, leaving Ashlyn to supervise his land in his absence. This fact led Pollen the Proud to suggest that the Peninsula's gender divide is an import from Monos or the late Orckid Empire: without the influence of the Host of Hosts, Milosian kings seemed content to let powerful women run their affairs.   Ashlyn is also believed to have held great acumen in war. Supposedly, her death from Winter Fever in 674 RA directly led to Corris the Cat's death during the Bastion Rebellion. We can reasonably conclude she was adept at her job and knew how to promote herself, as she managed to serve under at least three kings, including a dynastic-shift.   Wizard Ashlyn is often assumed to have been complicit in Harrek the Thief's seizure of the throne upon King Tranton's death. It may be so, yet could Harrek's act even be called a theft? Tranton died, leaving no heirs. If he had any brothers, uncles, or nephews, history fails to recall them. Indeed, Kyu Yev Quarry suggests that Tranton never truly existed, that he was a made up figure used by Harrek's enemies to vilify him. Wizard Agathe the Younger wrote that it may well be Tranton was invented to justify Harrek's taking five wives, and that perhaps these women were stolen away from enemy lords, the blame then shifted onto a prior king who supposedly held Aernigh blood. Legends are rife with tales of Aernigh stealing women away.   While her loyalty to Tranton Gall might be called into question, Ashlyn's devotion to Revellia as a whole is beyond reproach. She showed herself to be loyal to whomever sat the throne of rule, even as Harrek's Horde threatened to throw the canton into chaos.
