Apple Lake

To the southeast of Saolmoth, Apple Lake rests along the borders of the eastern Fiirwood. It is held by Clan Luun, who rule form Torthal, a fortress near the southern shores, from which they keep watch over the Fiirwood immediately east of the River Nightfall.   Legends say that an island once existed at the center of Apple Lake, whereupon an apple tree stood. It was a symbol of the Spring and of Faena, the Robin of Spring (or Fairess, Host of Fires, according to Host Keepers). So long as the tree and the island stood, the people of the Lake would be safe from their foes. But in the twilight of their power, the Queen of Apple Lake was deceived by Nabas, the Wolf of Night, who appeared to her as a wise counselor and convinced her to fell the tree, claiming a treasure of great power lay under its roots. Once the tree was gone, Faena departed, and Nabas destroyed the island, poisoning the Lake for a thousand years. The Lake's curse was eventually broken by Lugan Leigh (Lugan Lay, according to some), who cast a spell to summon Nabas, and then defeated the wolf in wits, speed, and finally strength. Host Keepers often change Lugan to Wilminar, Host of Venoms, and Nabas to Ulthran, Host of Waters (or even Esakr, perennial foe of all Host Keepers).
