Fairess, Host of Fires

Fairess

One of the Twelve High Hosts, that rule over the Heavens.   Fairess appears in many of the early myths of the Monosi. She is a goddess of Spring and rebirth, as well as the mistress of smithing. She is oft credited with giving the First King of Kings his magic sword, whose charm was scrawled by the fires of the stars. She is also said to have summoned flames from the sky and taught mankind how to make their own fires. Some legends say she was imprisoned by the other High Hosts, as fire was considered its own kind of magic and Fairess had no right to grant it unto mortals, but she was eventually released to aid in the war against Esakr. In some myths, she and Esakr grant all manner of gifts to the mortals, but Fairess stops short of gifting them with magic, a line Esakr willingly crosses.   In recent history, Fairess has oft been compared to Satar, the one god of the Satari faith, who was also said to have called down fires from the Heavens. Some modern sects of Host Keeping say it was Satar who, in her jealousy, imprisoned Fairess for granting fire to the mortals, but that the First King of Kings released her from her bondage; it was for this kindness that the Hosts knelt to him. In these sects, Satar is considered one of the faces worn by Esakr.   There are many stories of Fairess appearing in bitter Winter to grant aid to mortals, usually whilst disguising her form. She is oft depicted as a trickster, but a decidedly beneficent one, frequently misleading bandits or even deceiving monsters or Esakr herself, depending on the story. There are clear parallels between Fairess and Filain the Fool, the Deinain goddess of fire and Spring. They are both benign deceivers, both smiths, both wanderers who test the kindness of mortals, but while Filain the Fool generally operates independently of other deities, Fairess has a stronger martial aspect and frequently works in concert with the other High Hosts.   Fairess' colors are Green and Orange. Her bird is the Robin. Her beast is the Fox. Her Month is the first month, called Fair Moon or First-Moon. Her constellation is the Lover. She is associated with industry, courage, and passion. She is considered the patron of Arduron, the traditional First Royarch.   Common Aspects: Fairess Audhach (the war-leader), Fairess Gabhra (the smith), Fairess Melleaar (the trickster), Fairess Ullaach (the wanderer)
