Wilminar, Host of Venoms

Wilminar

One of the Twelve High Hosts that rule over the Heavens.   Wilminar is oft depicted with large green eyes and voluminous, chestnut hair, making her frequently associated with the Bastisi in Bastis. Her likeness is found in both the humble huts of midwives and the Great Healers' Shrine of Withested, and maids with chestnut hair are sometimes asked for a lock by hostermen and heroes before voyaging into the unknown.   Wilminar appears infrequently in early tales of the Hosts, but she can be found at the end of almost every telling of the great war between Esakr and the other hosts. She is said to look down upon the carnage of man and weep for forty days and nights. Her tears bury the dead and revive the wounded. In some versions, she descends to the earth and spends those forty days healing the First King of Kings (or his son in some versions), and in a handful of tales she becomes mortal and weds the King, bearing him forty sons (the forebears of the Onzui Ohir).   While many Hosts have feasts dedicated to them, Wilminar's adherents typically fast to show their devotion. Many healers eat only bread and drink only water, and history is replete with those who have starved themselves begging kings for mercy or demanding charity to the poor.   Of course, healing is only one facet of Wilminar's nature, as those who can heal know how to harm. She is also the Host of poisons and reversals, and those who suffer sudden misfortunes are sometimes said to have fallen under her eye, especially if those misfortunes are considered to be just. Many poisoners through history have prayed to Wilminar, and many great families who have suffered from poisoning will refuse to bear her likeness in their castles.   Wilminar's colors are Red and White. Her bird is the Eagle. Her beast is the Horse. Her Month is the eighth Month, called the Wil Moon or the Venom-Moon. Her constellation is the Cickatrice. She is associated with selflessness and labor, but also jealousy and resentment. She is considered the patron of Satulos the Healer, who cured Monos of a great plague.   Common Aspects: Wilminar Leigha (the healer), Wilminar Nimh (the poisoner), Wilminar Roya (the queen)
