The declassified black ops wing of the Federation military forces, they were dismantled and disbanded after an unsanctioned infiltration mission went awry. Purportedly, future black ops missions will be carried out in the core teams.
There are rumors, however, that only the core of Blackwing was hollowed out, while one of its branches, referred to by the rather plaintive title of the "Anomalous Materials Group", still exists.
