Firstborn Ethnicity in Amanor | World Anvil

Firstborn

They were the first creations of the Empyreal Gods -- the first innocents spoiled by a world that has since forgotten them.
— Queen Titania
The Firstborn are an extinct population of ancient Sidhe that lived on Amanor in the beginning of the Dawn Age. They were the original members of the species before it differentiated into the two subraces of Seelie and Unseelie. The Firstborn are so ancient as not to be mentioned even in the myths and legends of mortals.   The Firstborn were the first creatures to be created by hand by the Empyreal Gods at the very dawn of the world. Eventually the gods Iona and Etro consorted with the Firstborn, and their bloodline was divided into the Seelie and Unseelie. Thereafter the Firstborn themselves slowly dissappeared from the world.

History

The Firstborn were created shortly after the opening of Pandora's Box , an event which brought Amanor itself into being along with a fledgling Universe around it. For a time, the Firstborn lived on Amanor together with the gods that had created them. To the gods, their creations seemed wild and intriguing but possessed of the purest innocence, and the gods sought to guide and nurture the Firstborn.   However, the actions of Iona and Etro would eventually cause a rift to form between the Firstborn and the gods. The two young and lovelorn deities, doomed to be always apart from each other by the orders of the Empyreals, were allured by the Firstborn. The sun goddess Iona consorted with the mighty hunter Orion, giving birth to Eldarion, the first of the Seelie; while the moon god Etro was enamored with Juno, a kind-hearted and shy Sidhe, and their child was Illythia, the first of the Unseelie.   The Empyreal Gods judged these love-affairs harshly, seeing them as a violation of the innocence of the Firstborn. Ashamed, the Firstborn thereafter covered themselves with leaves and plants as well as the skins, bones and horns of beasts. And never again would anyone look upon the naked innocence of the Firstborn. This dogma of covering their bodies the Firstborn also passed on to their children -- the Seelie and the Unseelie -- who live by it today.   The loss of innocence brought by the actions of Orion and Juno were too much for the Firstborn to bear, however. As the bright new Sidhe generations thrived, the old and ashamed Firstborn began to dissappear. Perhaps only the gods know their ultimate fate; that they passed from the world to be part of nature itself -- melding with the wilds of the world to fade from the sight and ken of gods and eternals alike.
