Fey in Amanor
Come fairies, take me of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame.
— W.B. Yeats
Fey are a diverse group of eternals from Tír-na-nÓg, a mirror-dimension that exists in parallel to Amanor, also known by its Common name Feywild. Fey are typified as being fantastical creatures with a deep connection to nature. They can be of any size or shape: some are towering humanoids, others are akin to beasts, while a few can be classified as “spirits” and little else.   Ancient history tells us that fey are the foremost inhabitants of the world, being the first creatures created by the Empyreal Gods at the beginning of time. Ancient myths state that they have existed on Amanor since its creation in the Dawn Age, living amongst the gods and fighting side-by-side with them against forces of evil and chaos in the Dawn Wars. Over the many ages since, the fey have retreated from the world to Tír-na-nÓg.   Fey are referred to as faeries, sylvans, the fair folk or the children of the forest by mortal peoples of Amanor. To them, fey are mysterious and elusive creatures, unknowable in their timeless immortality and as merciless as nature itself; while some appear playful, shy and possessed of a child-like innocence; others can be cold, menacing and utterly disinterested in the welfare of mortals. There are many unsubstantiated legends about fey on Amanor, but it is common knowledge that dealing with them can be deadly, for they are bound by morals that are wildly different from those of mortal folk. And yet not all fey are dangerous, for they are creatures connected closely to nature; just as rainfall can save the harvest of a farmer while bringing misery upon a weary traveller, so too do fey help some mortals while mistreating others.   Most of the various types of fey are part of a loose hierarchy ruled by ancient archfey known as the Sidhe. Such fey are known collectively as court fey, named so after the two factions of the Sidhe -- the Summer Court and the Winter Court. Fey that reject this hierarchy and do not recognize the superiority of the Sidhe are known as wild fey.
