Arzel
Arzel is the second-largest city in the Kasesh Desert (behind Zenris), situated in the far northern reaches. Its most noticeable feature is the large cliff -- several hundred feet high -- that a large part of the city is built into or in the shadow of. Also well known are the temple to Pharasma known as the Graveyard and the building sectioned into shrines known as the Feretrum, both of which lead to the city being a popular pilgrimage location.
Outside of downtown and Market Row, the richer citizens of the city live in Zelrive, a small town just north of the city on the edge of the continent.
Demographics
Arzel is dominated by two races: Humans and Catfolk. Each makes up about half of the population, with a small number of Half-Elves, Ratfolk, and Dwarves.
Defences
Arzel is built as a vertical city, and relies on its ability to spot threats coming from as far away as possible. Built high on the main plateau is a small fort, housing the 1000 troops from the Army of Nicaea, as well as a small number of siege weapons.
Industry & Trade
Aside from shipbuilding being a major industry, the people of Arzel have been skilled hunters for long before flight was augmented with Aetherium. Whether in the desert or on floating balloon platforms over the airy seas, all kinds of rare meats and materials can be found in Arzel.
Infrastructure
Outside of the fort for the Army and the grand houses in Zelrive, the other most notable features is the Arzel Docks, which have been carved out of the cliff that keeps most of the city in its shade. Its elevation and size have made it the location of where most airships are finished, and has led to a shipbuilding boom in recent years.
