Vicra Lammergeyer

(a.k.a. The Flesh Artist or "Doctor Vic")

His Healiness

This entity was known throughout the land as someone who can heal just about any wound or illness, even those that traditional forms of medicine say are impossible to heal. Rumors circulate that this individual was unlucky / brings misfortune onto those he heals, however.   His real name was Doctor Vicra Lammergeyer, according to "old research notes" that his Gnoll companion Eyesore has apparently read. He typically went by the moniker "The Flesh Artist".

Mounting Body of Evidence

A disturbing pattern had started to emerge: the places that this individual visited seemed to suffer attacks from unusual hordes of zombies. These zombies, unlike others, tended to "get back up" (as Alice Wellhear has described it) after being knocked down.   Some of these zombies had also been observed trying to repair their broken bodies with whatever human (or animal) parts they could find, literally uttering the word "Repair" repeatedly. Others had apparently been successful in their endeavors, an example of which being a zombie with a hoof, and a pig's head where part of its face should have been.   All of these zombies feared the sun and actively tried to avoid it, as it (minimally) seemed to slow them down.   Doctor Vic claimed that the zombies were "unfortunate side effects of [his] work", and that he did not care what happens to them.   He felt that his "work" was actually creating "art". He mashed body parts together to create amalgamations that he would call "masterpieces"; two examples are The Glutton of Hershal's Rest and E.D.. He claimed that this work was done to correct a mismatch between a soul and its current body.

"Feeling Weak"

According to Baxton Mandrim, Doctor Vic would return to "some hidden lair by some hidden town" whenever he was "feeling weak". He was never able to make it there before being attacked and killed by an adventuring party.   This feeling of "weakness" was caused by the doctor "putting a bit of himself into his work". Each time he created one of his "masterpieces", he would lose some of his strength. His mechanism for dealing with that was to simply allow his mortal body to die, using magic to have his soul return to his lair. There, some of his devout cultists would carry out an elaborate ritual to resurrect him into a spare body that he had created before.

Strength in Weakness

When the doctor would create his next body after his resurrection, he would make sure to build it to be more resistant to whatever source of damage it was that killed him (along with the other sources of damage that had killed him before). Thanks to information from W.E.I.R.D., he was expected to be resistant to:

Physical Description

Special abilities

In all forms, Vicra had legendary actions to cast spells from his list.   Abilities that he had used in his typical form:
  • After taking a very painful breath, an aura would appear around him that caused those around him to find it very difficult and painful to breathe on their own, an effect that lingered for a short while even after leaving the aura. When he did this again, those already affected would lose breath points on a failed save.
  • He was able to teleport a short distance.
  • He carried around a seemingly bottomless box with hundreds of handravens that were able to provide him cover and attempt to disarm using their hands.
  • He was also capable of using Eldritch Blasts. His blasts blew his targets backwards by a short distance.
  • When inside a building, he also used Cloudkill, a spell that would create a lingering fog in an area.
It was later discovered that Vicra was using The Mask of the Wasted Breath to suppress the full extent of his abilities granted by The Mirage Entity in order to also avoid the repercussions. Once that was no longer possible, he went all-out by taking a very deep, full breath, transforming and gaining new abilities:
  • He could fly, and a torrent of wind would swirl around him to make him harder to hit with ranged attacks.
  • He made a melee claw attack that lingered where it landed. It's unknown what this lingering means.
  • Instead of Eldritch Blast, he started using Toll the Dead as his cantrip.

Social

Contacts & Relations

The only humanoid who had been seen traveling with the doctor, apart from his ragmen, was a single gnoll named Eyesore.   Doctor Vic was seen in Ashport having a heated discussion with Baxton Mandrim. The doctor claimed that he was displeased with Baxton's tendency not to "take his work seriously", and that this would jeopardize Baxton's "hold on Territory M".   According to Baxton's posthumous commentary, the six who correspond to the Manifestations of the Mirage (including Baxton and Vic) have all made pacts to stay out of one another's designated territories.   Had a relationship with Margaret "Magpie" Rookfeather-Lammergeyer, who the Ashport Government believes died 231 years ago after succumbing to a chronic illness, though Annu Adabra unofficially doesn't believe the story. Indeed, Margaret was actually taking up residence in Vicra's lair, not quite alive but not quite dead, after Vicra seemed to have made a deal with The Mirage Entity to sacrifice some of himself to save her.

Mannerisms

The plague doctor entity himself did not speak. Rather, one of his ragmen followers would speak for him, always referring to himself as "we" / "us" / "our", instead of "I" / "me" / "my".

Hobbies & Pets

He was followed around by short humanoids almost completely covered in thick linen bandages known as "ragmen". These ragmen did not appear to do anything in combat, and they were rather fragile.   He had also created a flock of mutated ravens, known as "handravens" on account of their lower bodies all having been replaced by functioning human hands.   Being a doctor, he had an office deep in his lair where he would bring people to be "fixed".
