Mirage Prime Character in Aeternia | World Anvil

Mirage Prime

Little is known about this entity other than that it has strong ties to Turmoil itself. The Book of the Mirage referred to it by the name, "Mirage Prime".   It is presumed to be the source of the power of each of the Manifestations of the Mirage. According to The Book of the Mirage, it acts as a sort of deity: some people pray to it, and it is more than willing to lend some out. From the sound of it, those who receive these "gifts" can call upon this entity to tap into a unique powerful ability related to their "gift":
  • Baxton Mandrim had vision-based abilities, and in his final stand, he was able to alter the perceptions of everyone in The Red Lady so that those affected would see everyone else in the room as if they were Baxton himself.
  • Vicra Lammergeyer had breath-based abilities, and when he used his ability (its strength muffled by The Mask of the Wasted Breath), those near him who were affected would suffer heavy damage every time they took a breath.
However, according to Baxton (posthumously), there are downsides to using the special ability: the full attention of Prime becomes focused on them, and if they "underperform", then they lose their "gift". Furthermore, although details are unclear, anyone who accepts a "gift" from Prime likely faces a severe penalty in the Afterlife, severe enough that both known individuals with these "gifts" have taken measures to try to cheat their way out of it:
  • Baxton would always wear an unencumbered Ring of Mind Shielding so that his soul would transfer into that ring upon his death instead, putting him in a sort of limbo.
  • Vicra set up a system to ensure that his soul would return to a beacon in his lair whenever he died, allowing him to resurrect with the help of devoted cultists.
