Úrilede

Navalede: Úrilede /uːrɪlɛːtɛ/
Úrilede: Úrilidi /urɪlɪtɪ/
Úrilede or úrilic1 is one of the main languages spoken by the Núrakic Elves within the Kingdom of Núrak, specifically in the northern part of Núrak around and north of the river Vakatír and Mt. Hiril, once part of the kingdom of Úrile.
The language is quite distinct from the other núrakic ones, due to being more conservative in terms of grammar and pronunciation and being influenced by lalic languages from across the Þixos Bay to the north due to longstanding contact -peaceful and violent alike- with the Záali. The latter is particularly strong among rural coastal communities, but mostly absent in the city of New Anúvil and the hinterland, and is considered uncouth among the latter, a legacy of attacks by záali pirates long ago.
Úrilic accent is notable for e /ɛ/ being pronounced more like i /ɪ/, s /s/ as z /z/, ending words with -e instead of -ía (i.e. Velúsía as Vilúze), and spoken overall faster than Navalede, the common tongue of the kingdom. Speakers of the latter, particularly warriors and guards, often imitate this accent due to the language being associated with martial prowess.

Writing System

Úrilic is traditionally written using an alphabet much like the one used for navalede, though somewhat simplified and featuring fewer letters.

1Original icelandic: úrilska.
