Steeltown

These paired caverns, though not directly connected, are grouped together and generally known as Steeltown. Both cavern ceilings are rife with walkways and many pillars and locked worker ladders descend from them, for all through the two caverns run various ventilation shafts and large scale piping and for all manner of needs. Some for intake, some for smoke and fume management, some pumping water, others even sea water all for a variety of processes. A few even pump magma, these specially designed and crafted with help of the Pyromancer's Collegiate of the Magisterium, the steel and mithrium alloy conduit used for that purpose exceedingly expensive. These two caverns get their name for being the sort of refinement center of Geata-Iariann. The mined ores and minerals, as well as quarried stone of various types and values are all processed within these two caverns at various shops, factories and production facilities. To many this district can seem a maze of moderate but impressively crafted dwellings, comfortable small blocks of residential areas surrounded by massive factory-esque compounds that from the outside often look very similar. The constant hum of machinery, the dull grind and metallic sounds of tools make up a consistent and permanent daily rhythm, punctuating the busy nature of the district.

Demographics

This district, similarly to Castellon Heights, has a notably dwarf and then human leaned populace, more of a lean than the city overall, which should not be surprising, as most of the other races would have stronger natural and instinctual objections to living underground. Similarly, of the (comparative to the city's large population) few Tantur that live in Geata-Iarainn, it should not be surprising that once again, you will find none of the Titan-blood folk making residence here, though the caverns are plenty tall enough. However a few do work in this district at some of the many refineries or block and brick cutting facilities.

Defences

Uniquely, the residential houses and the like are actually all carefully tarped with speciality tarping coated in melted seal and whale fat which has been done to help create a water repellent layer of sorts. These tarps are pinned, hooked and secured over the dwellings to protect their stone and metal structures from the natural humidity and condensation that can be expected and experienced in this district caused by all the refineries and such facilities that are running. This district, like most of the Caverns, does not really experience the temperatures that most Suranthi would call normal for their climate, never getting cold enough for water to freeze, a unique feature that has seen some few gnomes, halflings and elves at least overcome their distaste for living underground away from the sun, to escape the cold.

Points of interest

Though the district is in fact a maze of sorts of various similar looking productive facilities and compounds, large facilities that all share a very similar utilitarion style appearance, with modest residential neighborhoods scattered in between of similar looking dwellings done in a sort of interconnected townhouse blocking type style, there are in fact a few landmarks that do stand out amongst all this that are worthy of note;

Deepside Garrison

This fortress is connected directly to the Underwall, a massive structure and specially cut tunnel network that allows movement of large numbers of troops and equipment as needed rapidly to any cavern or tunnel that has been discovered or cut which would allow access to Geata-Iarainn directly, and is a key location for the Suranthi military, and for city defense. This garrison houses near a thousand troops at full compliment, and a notable number of military families live amongst residential areas of Steeltown.

Suranthi Metalworkers and Stone-cutters Guild, Geata Chapter

This guild is one of the most important and powerful, by sheer volume of its members and influence upon the nation of Suranth's economic position write large, and thus it should likely not be surprising that they have some of the best accomodations and protections for their workers, as well as some of the best wages compared to labor and risk, though that is not to say the work its members are engaging in is without risks. They are also one of the most numerous in membership in the city, with something in the neighborhood of a thousand members active at current. It was this chapter in particular whom stood in solidarity with the Ghelmen and with the Rail Workers to help them get legal Guild status in both those civil protests nearly turned conflicts in the last decade. As goes the metalworkers and stone-cutters, those whom refine and produce finished product from Suranth's rich bounty of minerals and ores, along with her smithies and stone-masons, and her miners, so goes her economy. So as such those three guilds, perhaps unsurprisingly, wield a notable amount of power, and that is no less true in Geata-Iarainn.

Steeltown GPD Precinct

Located at the junction shared with Gild-town and the exit out to the skywalks, this precinct is notably large, housing both regular police and a special investigations unit headquarters for higher ranking officers, detectives and their ilk. Specifically a small conclave of fifteen officers make up a special fiscal crimes unit who's sole job is to deal with financial aspects and crimes like tax evading, falsified books or documents, counterfieting operations and smuggling, that sort of thing. This precinct is headed up by an older officer from that unit, Sergeant Terrance Warrens, a human in his late fifties, likely only two or three years from retirement.

Suranthi College of Engineers Academy and Guildhall, Geata Chapter

Another massively influential guild across Suranth, so it should come as no surprise that instead of needing shared facilities like many guilds have in Sky-Side, this guild has the funds and influence to have their own academy and guild-hall, and the influence to justify such a thing. Between city planning, maintaining complex systems like the Steel Web, the name for the network of layered pipes and pumps that run the ceilings of Steeltown, and other such important tasks, as well as the various complex mechanical machinery and tools used by the manufacturing facilities all across the city, the need for such well trained individuals speaks for itself as to their importance and justifications for such an extravagent facility.

Suranthi Steelworkers and Pipefitters Guild Hall, Geata Chapter

Similarly to both the engineers and the refinery workers, this guild wields a lot of notable influence in particular in Geata-Iarainn and other cities like it, with large portions underground and this should come as no surprise, nor should the justification for their own full guild facilities for meetings, training and recruitment. Such underground construction demands a lot of skilled labor of this type for everything from proper ventilation to things as simple as moving enough fresh water to neighborhoods and facilities to insure availability and enough quantity for the people whom live there, and the needs of industry run there. As one explores Geata-Iarainn it should likely become very clear why the city, and Suranth writ large is oft referred to as the sort of birthplace of modern labor movements. Her guilds are notably the oldest, all other nations and organized labor efforts taking their queue and lead from the entrenched guilding system of Suranth and Suranthi culture. This particular compound and these facilities also lay an interesting claim, historically, claiming to be the oldest original guild compound still standing in the city, a claim that does seem to hold water based on most city records if one goes digging into the history of Geata-Iarainn's growth and construction through her public records, with the only real challenger, on a very heavy technicality, being the Magisterium.

I imagine the visuals of this district are cool. The police department sounds interesting, I like that they have a special task force for financial crimes.
