Builder's Bay

The smells of salt and brine mix with pitch, glues, wood and metal all throughout this district, its the smells you simply cannot escape here, masking even the smells of the fisheries and ghel refineries across the bay. Builder's Bay earns its name for its massive dry docks and shipywards as well the numerous shipwrights and various other manufacturing tied to naval seafaring. Everything from spare sail canvas to rudders, to masts to specialized rigging ropes are produced here en masse in different quantities. The smells are mixed with the acrid hints of smokepowder, naturally, as armaments and powder refinery and packaging are done for the Suranthi Navy here, among a handful of other cities. Geata-Iarainn rightfully has a reputation of being a city of manufacturing and resource processing and that reputation is well earned, as that is the primary nature of this northern port. Much is produced or refined from raw material here, both shipped in domestically and abroad. It is here in this humble part of the city that the majority of the vessels that move those goods and help Suranth project her power across her sovereign waters were and are either produced here or will/have spend time in the dry docks here for maintenance or repairs.

Points of interest

Builder's Bay is a district of manufacturing, shipping and shipyards, there isn't whole lot here to interest your average traveller. There are residential areas and as such there are a few local amenities, though no markets are found here and those that live here make due with a single grocer, a few small shops here and there scattered about selling the basics, but by and large if they desire a proper market they need to travel elsewhere in the city, likely making a day of it. That said there are a few taphouses and eateries in Builder's Bay, as one might expect, servicing the workers and sailors whom put in at the dry docks before they move to other districts to seek accomodations should they need them. None of these are of an extremely notable reputation worth visiting for your average traveler coming through Geata-Iarainn however.

Black Sail Breakhouse

This establishment, like most eateries in the area, serves seafoods, various simple but hearty breads and cheeses, as well as a variety of ales and stronger liquers, however for those in the know the Breakhouse does offer a noticeably wider variety of....'services' to the right sort of individual. The Breakhouse is a well known neutral ground for various criminal elements and syndicates, run specifically by the Ravens, a well trusted entity in the criminal underworld of Suranth. They are brokers of goods, movers of merchandise and are very well respected for their neutrality and approach to secrecy. They have a reputation of being capable of shipping goods, stolen objects or other...contraband even for two elements at each other's throats side by side on the same boat or railcar without incident. They take great pains to create layered seperation from their methods and shipping process and the groups whom hire them, and they are indispensible to the point that to move against them or to try and do something to the Breakhouse or its proprietiors, the Cullers, a seemingly unassuming halfmen family, would evoke quite a heavy handed reaction from a notable amount of criminal elements locally, and send ripples all across Suranth's criminal underworld as well. However unless you know how to make contact, unless you have established ties, you would likely need to have introductions made and those would never be made without a deep level of built trust with someone high up within the organization of one of their regular clients.

Your Builder's Bay shows perfectly, that not everything always has to be wow and outstanding and things can just be normal and average as well. Thank you for that reminder!
