Dicetown District

Dicetown, a district well named indeed, a proper tourist trap in a city otherwise known for its industrial complex. A honeyed trap of markets, gambling houses, pillow houses and taverns that even extends its tendrils and reach into other parts of the Sky-Side Quarters, in particular of course the Caid Pitch and its surroundings in Railside. However this district is a welcoming one, as one might expect a tourist trap to be, with many eateries, drinking houses, and other such establishments to be passed, too many to name. There are residential neighborhoods here of course, however that is not what most would think of when they hear Dicetown. They'd think of the night life, the energy and vibrance, even in such a cold and harsh land. To a southerner it might seem lacking but compared to any other part of any other city in Suranth, it is very lively indeed.

Points of interest

Besides what is listed here it is worthy of note of course that such a district should have plentiful eateries, pubs, taverns and alehouses, as well as likely many inns and more than one pillow house. In truth Dicetown does however the points listed here are the most important or well known of such establishments, as well as other important locales that would likely have been heard of, or be mentioned should you ask someone to list the most notable or significant locales within the district.

Sky-Side City Hall

Such structures are key to note for citizens and tourists alike as they house all variety of government offices, as well as being where those in the various districts can go to vote in their municipal elections every decade, one such location. Beyond that this is also a city repository, that is a city records keeper, and below this structure is housed a massive librarium that extends well beyond the structures walls itself, which is why none of the surrounding office buildings and residential homes have a foundation basement. This is one of four of the city's repositories for city records, and this one specializes in construction and blueprints as well as public election records and census data. Within this compound there are also embassies from Raechin, Rohara and Depenwood as well, which can be of important note to visitors depending on their own nationality. Furthmore but across the road one can also find the Dicetown Police Department.

Cliff-Crawler Khasilean

The upper Khasilean has a similar layout and purpose to the lower, which is the thoroughfare and access to the Cliff-Crawler lifts, such a vital component of how Geata-Iarainn functions as a city. For further information, see the entry under the South Narrows district.

Dicetown Markets

These markets are well known in Geata-Iarainn for their constant inventory and interesting variety. There are various craftspeople whom have trade shops established here as well, jewelers, smithies, tanners, tailors and more. It is perhaps the largest market in the city, and definitely on average the busiest. There is oft business to be found for anyone and everyone here, no matter what you are seeking, if you know which shop to visit, or ask around, you will likely find guidance to somewhere that may be able to help you.

The Golden Pillow Inn

This high end establishment is well known for its lavish quarters, comfortable lodgings, exquisite food and drink, as well as more....private comforts. Companionship is readily available here at a premium, for esteemed guests and clientele, however it is important that one knows the house rules. The proprietor and her staff are well endowed and well protected, having quite the capable staff on hand to 'address' any lack of appropriate etiquette should it arise. Madam Seriv'lyinn Astri'mahl is well known for her romantic ties to the local Lieutenant and his wife as well, and as such one would be wise to consider staying on their best behavior whilst visiting her fine place of business.
Show spoiler
Whilst all that has been said above is true, it is likely worthy of note that Madam Seriv'lyinn Astri'mahl is not quite all she seems. The elf is actually not merely a 'madam' but actually a harlequian, borne of a depraved act of sexual sacrifice involving dark prayers to Libidine, the Void Entity tied to lust and excess. In truth, she is a monster of sorts, something akin to a vampire or succubus, but mortal, feasting on joy and pleasure both physically and mentally. However she is a strange one for she does not feed incessantly without control, seeming to somehow have full control of her affliction, and has managed to hide in plain sight within Geata-Iarainn for nearly a hundred years now. Such creatures, mortal Void-spawn, normally do not last so long, they are normally utterly consumed by the corruptive taint within them and mutate into true monsters. None living know of her affliction, save one, her half sister (whom is actually the wife of the lieutenant in question and yes her lover), and their bond is very strong indeed.

Temple of the Dicemaster

A large influence on the district, this temple and the other facilities operated within its larger compound are well known as the Dice-Trap, or the Tourist Trap. Unsurprisingly the faith responsible for this is naturally the faith of Varis Tomain, the halfman god of luck, gambling, commerce and coin. It should come as no shock of course that much of the above board gambling, one way or another is overseen by members of, or trusted agents with, the church's blessing. It is also worthwhile to note that this temple actually acts as the central banking facility/exchange for foreigners whom need to change over currency, as well as large businesses and the like whom wish to keep their coin in safe hands. After all they do not call Varis Tomain the master of coin for no reason.

Church of the Life-Tree

Though no heartwood exists here, in proper accordance to their most trusted neighbors in the Depen and Raechin, the capital of Suranth has a large church run for the followers of either of the husband and wife pair of Talia, the lady of the Leaves, and Boran the Bloodhound, the god of the hunt. This simple church is run by a pair of priests, both Tantur men, whom are known to be married. This has seen them having a minor scuffle with a small subsection of the so called faithful now and again, and with having to ban at least one or two individuals from their church's premises over the years due to clear ill intentions. They've unfortunately also been the target for vandalism and robbery twice in the past year, and believe it to be the acts of one particularly angry young man. Such unfortunate stains are not unheard of anywhere on Valerick however, though by and large most folks do not care about individuals private pillow lives, nor whom their partner or partners are. The police haven't been able to link this individual to the acts in question with enough evidence to actually make an arrest, however.

Besides the noted above, Dicetown has many treasures to offer. It is likely the most well visited part of Geata-Iarainn, perhaps technically second only to Railside because locomotive travel is one of the most common ways people travel across the Tundra Realms, however Dicetown truly is something that needs to be experienced and not just read about. The shops and eateries alone are well worth the visit, the variety, whilst perhaps paling when compared to massive cities in more southern climes, is truly something unique in the nation of Suranth at the very least and well worth the visit and the time to explore.
