Sewers

The sewers of New York City are a vast network of tunnels and pipes that connect the homes of all New Yorkers with the wastewater treatment plants. It system also serves as a drainage system during heavy rain and storms.   Dispite the harsh conditions within the sewage system there are various animals and even some plants found here. The most common are rats, mice, other small rodents, eels, snakes and lizards. The catch basins can be home for various species of fish. This habitat is marked by three extreme states. Most of the time the system is semi-aquatic with often hazardous waste water. During heavy storms the sewers become fully aquatic. The third state is the rarest as it only happens occasionally. Whenever city workers do some maintenance work or cleaning in the pipes and tunnels they are drained for a few hours.   The sewers are home to the Bahkauv.   The sewers are managed by the New York City Departement of Environmental Protection. It is one of its many tasks. The agency often requests the support of the Hunter's Guild or from various Undercity Dweller groups when something dangerous makes its way into the sewers. Which happens occasionally, but not too often. Since the fall of the veil the people in charge of the departement have become aware of how dangerous it can be to work in the undercity. As a result most employees are now awarded hazard pay and are often accompanied by armed guards when they have to venture deep.
