Runehammer

A Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game In the world of Runehammer
September 2019 | Full
The last remaining heir to the Hazkal Lineage has been identified. A small party of Dwarves, formed by the new High King Gotrek Gurnisson has assembled and is planning on retaking what they believe to be the ancestral home of the Hazkal Dwarves, Tiwaz-Katalbuyk, or Rest at Journey’s End. The keep has long been inhabited by an evil blue dragon by the name of Dracothrax. Dracothrax is a wanted fugitive of the High Council of Magic, and as such the council has dedicated resources to assist the Dwarven Expedition. This rag-tag team of heroes will brave the treacherous cold of Astrakain and travel deep into the Runeweald to find and retake the Ancient Keep. They know little of what lies ahead of them.

    Map Notes

    • Composed from the records of Edward Plax
    • Kara-Tur is mostly unmapped except for the major trade port of Akita
    • The Summer Coasts are mapped from the assumptions made from an ancient adventurer's journal
    • The Geography of Astrakain is an estimate from ship logs as I have no sources that indicate a successful voyage to Astrakain.
    • The general geography of videssos is drawn from historical records. The half-orcs refuse to provide a map and no cartographers have made it back from a mapping journey to Videssos.
Supporting Cast
  • Broldrig Grumblestrength
Broldrig doesn't say a whole lot, and when he does, you'd prefer he didn't say anything at all. Maybe he was born this way or maybe he's suffered brain damage from years of fighting, who knows. Just don't go talking about him behind his back, he often approaches entirely unheard. He has surprisingly light feet for a Dwarf. That being said when negotiations fail and the swords are drawn, there is no one you'd rather have standing by your side. He also seems to have an almost supernatural gift when it comes to calming animals, and perhaps an incredibly acute sense of smell given his hound-like ability to track down adversaries. Died in Dhogarhum fighting a black dragon on Okri's Bridge. Engulfed in acid.
  • Baroness of Osset Faowin Raloryn
Faowin Raloryn (Fey-oh-win Rah-lore-rin) is a slender elf with long brown hair and silver eyes. The party met Faowin in the slave pits of Gun' Gardak. Faowin has clearly taken a liking to the gentlemen goblin Mork Ratskin, but all too often their interactions have been cut short due to her duties as a horse archer of the Khan's Guard in Bandit's Breach. Her persona is mysterious and not much else is known about her. She often appears unexpected and cloaked. She has two companions: Morthil, a young elven boy, and Volodar, a tall elven man with deep black hair.
  • Spellfilcher Gelmir Gálmód
Rather strangely, Gelmir Gálmód, an Elf from Osset, has got himself tied up in this whole ordeal. He's a spell filcher, a specialty elven thief skilled in arcane magic, his previous employer was the Fallencloaks, a mysterious thieves guild in Osset. Turns out he got arrested by Magister Goswin Reeder and she offered him a deal for his freedom. The high council does not take freeing prisoners lightly, so he must be pretty good at what he does.
  • Baron Gorag Goldcrown
Middle-aged half-orc [s]Bailiff[/s] Baron of Osset. His face is locked in a permanent state of concern. His jet black hair has a touch of grey, his face has a couple of faded scars, and his forehead has feint wrinkles. It is clear from his face alone that he has fought hard for what he has. Died October 20, 1896
  • Magister Goswin Reeder
Goswin Reeder is a relatively new Magister of the High Council. She's wicked smart, clever, and doesn't put up with anyone's shit. She has been assigned to the Expeditionary Force to ensure that the High Council is getting their money's worth. She was given a choice of who to take on the mission, she chose Jordis due to his local knowledge and arctic survival skills, and a prisoner that she apprehended, a spellflicher from Osset named Gelmir Gálmód.
  • High King Gotrek Gurnisson
A stout, stubborn, and ambitious Dwarf who is a direct descendant of the Hazkal lineage, one of the three lines of Dwarven Kings. Though he is old, his companions called him Gotrek the Unkillable. Gotrek is a living testament to the Dwarven myth that Dwarves are so stubborn that they only die once they have completed all of their goals. Gotrek is hellbent on retaking one of the first places his people called home and reinstating the Dwarven Monarchy.
  • Captain Guy Valdekain
The Captain of the Crimson Lions. Guy is a tall stout man with a bald head that he covers with a yellow chaperone. His face is slightly wrinkled and he has a greyish white stubble beginning to form. His clothes consist of a black long coat with red accents that he pairs with a white undershirt as well as black hoes and dark brown leather riding boots. He is a former mercenary who had many successes in the profession but eventually retired his sword and armor and became a wealthy merchant in Antiera.
  • Lord Oromm Gurnisson
Quick, Agile, and Sneaky. Oromm was a bastard whoreson of Gurni Malgeksson, Gotrek's Father. As such he was born into a poor family in a slumy district of Hammerhold. He never received any formal combat training but the rough conditions in which was raised have granted him other skills. Oromm's true father was a poorly kept secret and Gotrek and Oromm became friends about 50 or so years ago. Once Gotrek found out he was the rightful heir to the Hazkal throne, he legitimized Oromm as a son of Gurni. Gotrek is old and does not have kids, making Oromm his natural successor. Killed in Action, slain by a skin-crawler in his sleep. Approximately 2:15 AM, October 22nd, 1916 P.M.E., Near the Zhuf Wyr, Runeweald, Astrakain.
  • Rorothim Rumblecrag
Roro is an artist at heart! He studied at Malbolge College in Dawngate as a True Bard. He's empathetic, witty, and frequently in song. As an Okri Dwarf, Roro wishes for there to be a grand city to represent the prosperity of his kin. He plans on telling tales of Gotrek's conquest throughout the lands and rallying Dwarves to move to Tiwaz-Katalbuyk. MIA, presumably killed by a Skin-Crawler Approx 1:30 PM, October 21st, 1916 P.M.E, Near the Zhuf Wyr, The Runeweald, Astrakain
