Session 2: The Archdruid's Grove Report

General Summary

Monday, October 16th, 1916 P.M.E. Ironlight, Moorufell Province

The party sits around a hearthside table (except Ezekial , he stands) and enjoys hot coffee and breakfast. All of the Dwarves are jolly except for Romgo , who has had the events of last night stirring in his head all morning. The barkeep stares blankly at the wall of liquor while sitting at the counter, Gelmir sits beside her but it is unclear if they are talking to each other. The party is amidst planning their next steps when an unknown Dwarven Cleric of Dumathoin enters the tavern. He greets his fellow kin who are in awe that they are in the presence of what must be one of the few remaining Thalhund of Dumathoin , an ancient and highly honored clerical order of the Dwarven Pantheon. He introduced himself as Khagmadog Drumgrir of the Thalhund and quickly found his place in the party, taking a liking to the rest of the lads. Eventually, Magister Goswin Reeder makes her way into the tavern and gathers the expedition around the table. She explained that they need to find the Archdruid of the Runeweald in order to get a map of the region. She knows that the Archdruid lives in a settlement called Khuldahar, the problem is, no one in the party knows where Khuldahar is in relation to Ironlight. So she suggested that the group splits up and starts to investigate. She took Gelmir and Gotrek with her.   The party goes to the town square, first querying the guards about the strange hooded figure they saw last night and whether or not anyone is missing a pair of magical boots and magic shortsword. He knows nothing about either and suggests they go talk to Kelemor about the magic items. They also ask if there is a doctor that could heal some of Mores' wounds. He tells them to go to the barber-surgeon at the grocer. Mores gets his wounds sutured with Jordis and Ezekial, Llobh, and Khagmadog go to talk to the huntmaster. The huntmaster mentions that Khuldahar is somewhere east of the Eastgrave Thicket, a forest about 50 leagues north of Ironlight. He says that he doesn't know how to get to Khuldahar as the druids don't much like him. He also says that Kelemor would know more about it as he is the unofficial trade ambassador of the Runeweald. Mores and Jordis meet up with Ezekial and Llobh and the group enters Kelemor's Goods n More. Llobh nearly gets his head taken off by a flying ax and discourse breaks out between the party and Kelemor's assistant Forgrim. It is noted that Forgrim has the ability to identify magical items for 100 gold pieces and that Kelemor went off to the mines to inspect the ore shipments.   Ezekial cleverly employs his ranger skills to track the corpse cart that was outside of the tavern last night into the forest. The tracks split into two directions. One went east and eventually disappeared into the White River (Zhuf Wyr) and the other headed about 1 league north and then eventually faded under the heavy snowfall. Jordis begins divining for a cart and finds a small abandoned Kobold encampment. In one of the bedrolls, the party finds a piece of parchment with a crude map drawn on it. The map depicted some dotted lines going to an image of a house and the other crossing over a river and going to a cave. Both have x's crossed over them.   The party then heads back to the village to see what else is going on. A protest has broken out outside of the barracks, which is now barricaded. the Miner's guild has received an SOS message via carrier pigeon from their eastern Iron mine stating that they were attacked by kobold last night and that they have barricaded themselves in the Northeastern Tunnel. Khagmadog claims it is his duty to save these miners as a protector of the under-mountain. Mores domes one of the guardsmen in the parapet with a snowball prompting the crowd to follow suit.   The party seeks the rest of the expedition in the Tavern. Romgo, Orimnok, and Roro are drinking some ale and hanging out. They say that Goswin, Gelmir, and Gotrek (the G-unit) will be gone for a couple of days as the huntmaster has promised to take them to the Eastgrave Thicket. With the remaining Dwarves gathered the party heads east to the mines with the directions of one of the miner's guild members.

Tuesday, October 17th, 1916 P.M.E. The Runeweald, Astrakain

After a day and a half of travel, the party finds the entrance to the mine. There are no immediate signs of life, many bodies of Kobolds and Humans are strewn about. Upon lighting up their torches and lanterns they venture into the gaping maw of the hill and (with much discussion) head to the northeast tunnel. After traveling hundreds of feet into the mine a flipped over minecart can be seen blocking the path. On the close side of the minecart there is a mound of kobold bodies, on the other side, two dead humans lie. A little ways past the cart is a small crack in the cave wall that has been recently hewn asunder, it leads to a smooth stone stairway that descends into darkness. With some effort, the party manages to squeeze through the crack. Immediately upon entering the first room in the mysterious chamber the party is attacked by a group of goblins who seemed to be struggling to open a steel portcullis. The goblins were dispatched swiftly but not without injury. Who knows what else might reside in this wretched place...
